£20 will buy you 22 litres of Czech pivo (BEER) in the town where they grow Budvar (Zatec) 55kc:£1 - 50kc a litre.
Hurrah - AND it’s even cheaper during their ‘harvest’ festival.

Ignore the everclear supporters Muad’dib. Trust me. That shit’s nasty to get drunk on. If you don’t like the taste of alcohol, rum is the best way to go, especially as you can make the drinks rather mild so you can’t taste the alcohol.
From personal experience, I guarantee rum mixes well with water, Coke, Pepsi, ginger ale, Sprite, Seven-Up, guava drinks, Gatorade, Kool-Aid, pineapple juice, orange juice, mixtures of fruit juices, coffee, and tea. Tomato juice is the only liquid I’ve tried for a mixer with rum that failed, and I would not use milk.
If you liked the taste of alcohol and had $20 to blow, I would say get a couple of bottles of Amaretto and pour it over ice. Superchilled Amaretto, mmmmmmmmm.
I had no idea Everclear was illegal in CA. My only experience with it was in CT. That sorta sucks.
Personally, my drink of choice is a nice scotch on the rocks. Lately I’ve been loving me some tonic – gin and tonic, vodka tonic, I’ve even been drinking Jim Beam and tonic when I’m in a cheapie mood.
But those drinks would be about the last things I’d recommend to somebody who disliked the taste of alcohol.
Given that Everclear’s not legal in Muad’Dib’s state (by the way, I didn’t know until Tristan mentioned it that you were in Sac, M’D. Pardon me if I missed it but are you 21? If so, let’s all get together and hit some bars and get wasted together, eh?), my new recommendation is 151 and Dr. Pepper. Or Coke. Or Safeway Select Dr A+ to keep expenses low. The suggestion of ice-cold high proof vodka is a good one, too. I’d go with cran as the mixer in that case. Hey t-keela, cheers.
Rum and gatorade? ::gags::
Hmm. I have thought of making a Gatorade Margarita.
I know, 3 bucks to fu** you up.
The Bananna Red is my favorite. Make sure it is ice cold though, and shake vigorously.
You can also mix these:
-Parrot Bay coconut rum w/ blue pepsi
-Captain Morgan’s spiced rum w/ cream soda
-Jack Daniels and coke or with apple juice
Each bottle is under $15
St. Ides also makes a special brew. Its sorta like a flavored beer. Mixed fruit or berry will do the trick since you are not a drinker.
My new drink of choice is Courvoissier w/ a little ice or with some coca cola
And unplug the phone. If you want to talk, try reading Cyrano de Bergerac aloud, especially the speech about having a garden of one’s own.
Stick with the Zima suggestion, you’ll pee more and hurt yourself less.
I’m a huge alcohol wuss, grimacing at the taste usually, but some stuff tastes good. I like to put Kahlua, Baja Rosa, or Baja Luna in milk. Very tasty!
I agree with Cheesesteak - fruit flavoured vodka (raspberry is the only one I’ve tried, though) in Sprite or 7up is tasty, too. Doesn’t even taste like alcohol. Same for peach schnapps in 7up.
(I can’t drink much of these myself, though, as I can’t have much sugar, and the last time I drank peach schnapps in 7up I became too weak to move despite the fact that I wasn’t drunk. But if you don’t have this problem, try that, they are tasty!)
I like Heineken beer the most of all, though. Doesn’t make me sick, doesn’t give me hangovers, and tastes good.
I’d like to try this Zima stuff, wish we had it here.
I wouldn’t think about it anymore…I tried it, wasted tequila brother. DON"T GO THERE But 7-UP works w/ lots of stuff.
I’m not much of a “mixed” drinker anymore, strictly a straight cuervo man, I’ll have a margarita sometimes if it’s strong or I’ll drink 'em to chase shots with.
Peyote he didn’t ask about the hangover…
Has anyone mentioned a Long Island Iced Tea?
That’s what my wife drinks and she doesn’t care for a strong alcohol taste either. A couple of those will usually do the trick and they taste pretty damned good if made right.
It’s practically straight liquor but doesn’t taste like it. Anyone got a really good recipe.
IIRC it’s like a shot of all the following: (top shelf) rum, gin, vodka, tequila, triple sec, and sour mix all shaken together w/ice.
Next pour into a tall glass…
then add a splash of coke and take a lemon slice and twist over the drink and garnish.
If you got twenty bucks (they’re expensive)and want to have a couple or three GOOD drinks that will do the trick, then try a L/I Tea.
There’s several variations for this recipe. I don’t claim to know which is best. I do know that I have had a few really good ones though.
lightin’ what say you?
what’s the word?..thunderbird
what’s the price?
If you don’t mind the taste of cheap domestic beer, try ** Steel Reserve **.- 8.1% alcohol. Around here, (Victorville, Ca) It’s a buck twenty four out the door for a twenty four ounce can.
If your intent is to “get loose” and hang with friends, Jello shooters are always good. Follow the directions on the Jello box, replacing the cold water with vodka or tequila. For some reason, they just don’t seem right for “my girlfriend just left me” sob-fests, but they’re perfect for the amateur drinker looking for a good buzz with good friends.
That’s just wrong However I must admit to drinking, and enjoying, Mountain Dew and tequila (really good if you add frozen strawberries to the mix), so who am I to judge?
Seriously, I know you said this was tounge-in-cheek, but anybody who wants to try any af these, please be careful- set your limits before you start. We can’t afford to lose any soldiers in the fight against ignorance.
Peace-DESK (Posting under the influence)
A fifth of Dr. McGillicuddy’s Menthol Mint Schnapps, extremely chilled, works for me.
My friend and I have a ritual every Friday night where we get falling down drunk and hate ourselves the next morning.
To induce this state we either an odd mutation of a drinking game that forces us to drink sips of beer at an alarming rate, or we hit the 151 proof rum. Not anything good mind you, I’m only passing this along because you said to keep it under $20.
We too are not overly fond of the taste of alcohol, and 151 packs quite a punch, so the secret? It’s in the chaser. Pickle juice my good people. Sure. Laugh. I did when he told me, but it works.
Do a shot of anything you like, and then take a quick little swig of the pickle juice and you won’t have any of that dreadful aftertaste associated with the hard stuff.
Doesn’t work on the burp-em-ups though. No cure for that, sorry.
Have fun and drink responsibly.
And don’t listen to those that try to tell you that there’s no solace to be found at the bottom of a bottle. Just keep it in moderation. Sometimes the best thing is to get out of your own head for a little while.
t-keela: It was a piss-poor drunk for reasons that had nothing to do with a hangover.
If I was concerned with Muad’dib getting a hangover, I would not have recommended 151 Bacardi as I got the second-worst hangover in my life from drinking this stuff and whiskey.
But if you want to get royally drunk and don’t like the taste of alcohol, then rum is the only way to go.
Oh, that reminds me. Muad’dib, the best way to beat a hangover is to drink 1 or 2 quarts of water before you go to bed.
While the Everclear suggestions are accurate as far as making a person quite drunk, it’s easy to get ahead of the affects even if you’re trying to pace yourself.
The recommendation to not do shots is an excellent one. Shots are the easiest way to get way too much alcohol in your system before noticing the affects.
I would recommend a nice big jug of decent table wine if you plan to actually do this. Malt Liquor will do a good number on you as well.
If you do decide to go with harder alcohol, please try to at least fall asleep on your side and not your back.
Good luck.
<cheap student>
vodka and lime cordial.
it burns, but you dont taste the vodka at all.
interesting experience.
</cheap student>
it really aint that bad.
Not to say that 151 isn’t solely responsible for some of my worst hangovers ever, but I think a contributing factor to yours was the mixing of liquors. That’s a no-no.
SOJU the national drink of Korea (and the choice of cheap GIs). you get drunk on this on Friday night and stay drunk all weekend.
Champagne gets you looped.
My favorite shot: Chocolate Cakes which are 1 part Vodka and one part Frangelico. Take a sugared lemon before you drink and it tastes like brownie batter. Yum.

Has some good recipes.
