I always liked Robert Duvall’s cow speech in Colors but I can’t find it anywhere online and I don’t want to mess it up.
Ditto with Mark’s speech before he leaves Salt Lake City in SLC Punk. He says something along the lines of “cars, people, houses, what else do you think is out there?” Kind of gives me chills.
I would appreciate it if anyone has these exact quotes and posts them.
God damn it. An entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables…slaves with white collars. Advertising has its taste in cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don’t need. We’re the middle children of history, no purpose or place. We have no great war, no great depression. Our great war is a spiritual war; our great depression is our lives. We’ve all been raised on television to believe that one day we’d be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we won’t. We’re slowly learning that fact. And we’re very, very pissed off.
Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television. Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit crushing game shows, stuffing junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose a future. Choose life… But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin’ else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you’ve got heroin?
I dunno; Casablanca has always had my vote for greatest movie of all time, but it doesn’t have much in the way of inspirational quotes – the many memorable lines are mostly witty ones. But inspirational scenes? Oh yeah – “Paris has fallen”; Die Wacht am Rhein; La Marseillaise. Tears and chills, baby.
Eomer. Take your éored down the left flank. Gamling, follow the King’s banner down the center. Grimbold, take your company right, after you pass the wall. Forth, and fear no darkness! Arise. Arise, Riders of Théoden. Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered. A sword day… a red day… ere the sun rises. Ride now… Ride now… Ride. Ride for ruin and the world’s ending. DEATH!
And
Hold your ground, hold your ground. Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down, but it is not this day. This day we fight! For all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!
