Title says it all.
Well it’s not exact, but it looks as if he has approximately 2 inches or so on Martin Luther King in this photo so if you know MLK’s height that should get you pretty close.
Clinton in this one http://www.house.gov/conyers/news_biography.htm
so that’s two.
Clinton is exactly as tall as I am at 6’ 2.5", but I think that picture might overemphasize his height a bit as the photo perspective looks (to me) a bit fish eyed.
Clinton’s about half a head taller than Conyers. That’s what? About four inches or so?
Why do you want to know his height? Are you trying to ascertain whether he’d be a good person to play at power forward on your Fantasy Congressional Basketball League team?
Naw, I hadn’t even thought about him in years until this week. Here’s why:
A decade or so ago, Janet Reno was called on the carpet to explain what went wrong with the siege of Branch Davidian compound in Waco. The person playing the role of Grand Inquisitor was the otherwise unworthy-of-mention Rep. John Conyers. John Conyers has probably zero in common with John Kerry, except for party affiliation–but in this instance, he had that haughty, imperious, arrogant, condescending Kerry-esque solemn intonation (at least in this instance) as he rumbled as thunder from above, passing judgment on the hapless Ms. Reno, at least in this instance “. . . YOOOOUUUUU DIIIIID THE RIIIIIIIGHT THING BY OFFERING TO RESIIIIIIIIGN. . . .” Well, it didn’t sound quite like that, but when it reminded me of the scene, I kept hearing (in my head) Kerry’s voice coming out of Conyers’ mouth.
And while the Waco stand-off was obviously not one of law enforcement’s better moments, to say the least–it was the crackpots inside the compound that torched it–not the ATF or FBI.
Anyway, Reno was having none of that and stood her ground against the congressman’s grandstanding.
Which brings us to this week. Ms. Reno was testifying again, before the current grandstanding committee, the 9-11 Commission. I was just reminded of her earlier time on the hotseat, and I had this mental image (remembering that Reno is a very large woman, and thinking that Conyers might be a shrimpy little George Jefferson type) of her jerking him up by the collar and laying the smacketh down.
As it turns out, though, Conyers is probably at least average-sized, and the mental image I had not very realistic.
I think your image was positively brilliant.
[hijack]I actually really like Kerry’s manner of speaking. It reminds me a little bit of William Jennings Bryan, and I find it quite statesmanlike compared to the casual folksiness of Bush and Clinton.[/hijack]
