What is the IP address for Hotmail?

Thanks in advance.

You can do a look up here:

http://kresch.com/resources/lookup.php

I can’t do a lookup, typing ‘Hotmail’ in to text box is barred from where I am at the moment. Can someone help me?

www.hotmail.com [64.4.52.7]

Or hey, you could probably just click on that link and it would work just as well

An nslookup on www.hotmail.com reveals the following IP addresses:

64.4.52.7
64.4.53.7
64.4.43.7
64.4.44.7
Hope this helps,
Max.

Can I ask some questions?
-Where are you that filters your text, but not actual IP addresses?
-What the heck software are they using to do this?
-And if all the above are true, how’d you manage to say the “H” word here?!?!?

Nanoda, many proxy servers and application-level firewalls have the ability to scan URLs for inappropriate content, such as X-rated stuff, non-work related stuff, web-based email sites etc.

Many scan the URL for a matching string of text (eg www.hotmail.com), but do not do a reverse name resolution on an IP address (converting an IP address back to the hostname eg www.hotmail.com) - hence connecting to an IP address versus a name might bypass/trick the proxy server.

Incidentally, a reverse name resolution on 64.4.52.7 resolves to lc1.law5.hotmail.com. So a proxy server with a filter set for “www.hotmail.com” would not block this anyway. The proxy server would need a filter for *.hotmail.com and, ideally, would perform reverse name resolution on IP addresses to prevent what Beastal is attempting.

Nanoda, almost forgot…

as to why he can type the text into a message but not into the URL, the proxy server in place doesn’t scan the contents of the page - just the addresses that users attempt to access.

The question Maxxxie was, how was the OP able to post a message with the word Hotmail, but unable to enter that information into an edit box for the link that I provided.

You can just use ping or traceroute to find out.

Easyphil, here we have proof of why I should not answer questions when under the influence of chocolate. I interpreted “text box” as “address” box. sigh

Ignore my second post  But the first one is still valid

Max.

And I suppose it didn’t help that when I wrote text box, I meant address box.

Anyways, thanks for your help, but victory went to the proxy server.

No, you cant. ping and traceroute will provide you with only one address. for many addresses on the internet, that is fine, but for larger ones, like hotmail, it isnt. larger services use multiple servers, which in turn hav multiple addresses. ping and traceroute doesnt provide that information.
