What is the name of the widget I seek?

I’m considering drilling a circular hole in a wall, about 25mm diameter so I can put cables through it. The wall is about 100mm thick - two pieces of wood with an air gap so I’ll need one for each side. On both sides I want a plastic piece that will surround and protect the edges of the hole and the cables. Sort of a combination of face-plate, surround, and grommet, but none of those bring up what I want in searches. What is the name for this widget? My search-fu has failed me.

Well, the proper name is “Escutcheon.”
But, I think you want a wall plate with a hole, like this: https://www.blocklighting.com/product/190835/pj7-w-leviton-1-gang-single-1-406-inch-hole-device-receptacle-wallplate-midway-size-ther

Try searching for a “fire sprinkler escutcheon”

I have exactly what you’re describing as a feature on my desk, allowing cables and cords to pass through.

If nobody gives you the name for this item, you could go to a Lowe’s or Home Depot and describe what you seek. A bushing like this might work.

How about a cable pass-through wall plate?

Something like this should work.

But escutcheon is such a pleasing word. I feel like I want to install a few just so I can shop around for some and impress (or more likely get strange looks from) the Home Depot staff.

I also feel that if anyone manages to produce a wormhole to another universe that an escutcheon should be installed around it for neatness.

Thank you. I also need something to protect the cable inside but I can cut some pipe to fit.

Yes, without the cover. I think I need one of those plus the escutcheon beowulff suggests.

So nice to read of an escutcheon without a blot on it…

I admire your traditions and ideals. You must be a resolute man.

Get one of these desk cable grommet when you’re at Lowes, Home Depot, etc. They typically come in black, white, grey, or brown. You might have to glue it to the hole in that cover plate, since normally, they sit in a hole drilled in a desktop.

Try looking up electrical conduit. If you’re running cable you want something like this one or see if you can grab a remnant from an electrical supply shop. There are wall plates and grommets (and maybe a nice Wensleydale somewheres about) that fit right on it.

If it’s just signal cable (computers & networking), he should consider ENT Conduit like this instead.

I just bought some of these. I googled “wire grommet” and found them.
