I missed the beginning and I couldn’t read the credits on the tiny screen six inches from my eyes on a United flight from London.
I missed the beginning, but I gather it was about two friends, both English actors, taking a vacation walking around the countryside in the north of the UK somewhere. The two were the only characters, except for a brief encounter with one character’s parents at the end of the film.
They were both actors, one commercially successful, the other seemed to be critically appreciated, but not a commercial success. They spoke a lot, recited poetry, and did a lot of impressions. Food seemed to be important.
The film ended with the less successful one going home to his modest rowhouse, where his wife and baby were there to welcome him home, showing much love. The successful one went home to his beautiful and very expensive apartment, which is sterile and empty. He calls his agent and turns down a lucrative role in an American TV show in order to stay in England and raise his grown children It was revealed that his son had some drug problems.)
I think this is a recent film, within the last year or so. I really liked it but I have no idea what it is called. Googling hasn’t helped so far.
The Trip, with Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon. I saw it in March at a film festival. I thought it was very funny. Michael Caine is practically a 3rd character in the film, for all the impressions they do.
Ah, beat, I see. It was released theatrically in America. It opened a month or so ago.
