What is the next fashion trend from counter-culture to mainstrea?

A lot of fashion trends like head shaving, nipple piercing, mohawks seem to have come from counter-culture, bohemians, beatniks alternative lifestylers(whatever you want to call it) or even from other cultures. Then they make it into our mainstream culture. Tattoos for example were (re) introduced into western culture from Polynesia. It went from sailors into the mainstream.
The mohawk hairstyle went from the Native Americans to punks to being mainstream. There is a history with all of these things.
Can anyone predict what trend will be next? Would you become a millionaire if you could?

I was inspired by EnsignE’s fight with Blueslipper

Is there a spell-checker when one posts?

Bondage outfits as acceptable work attire.

Dredlocks? Long dredlocks? I’m not sure. Five years ago, I was a weird hippie chick, and now every shopowner and her grandmother love my long skirts and get their own at TJ Maxx. I seen a lot of my subculture’s “look” become mainstream, but not dreds yet - at least, not on white folks.

Google’s Toolbar can check your spelling. You just have to install it.

Man, where do you guys live? Around here, you can find dreadlocked people in bondage gear working at law offices.

I predict they will just continue to recycle punk every few years in to perpetuity. Why bother co-opting new things when you can just do the same thing over and over again and nobody would know (or acknowledge) the difference? Twenty years from now I fully expect my kids to come home wearing anarchy signs and butt flaps and blue hair and I’ll say “Hey, thats just what I did when I was 15.” At which case they will do exactly what I did when my mom told me that same thing- try to put it out of their heads. Then they will spend a few years worrying about the “posers” who are “co-opting” their subcultures, and then get a little older and realize it’s always been the same thing since the beginning of time. I truly belive punk rock can see us in to the 22nd century.

Scarification is becoming more popular in Europe/North America. Obviously, tribes in Africa and South America have been doing it for thousands of years, but now it’s starting to go hand in hand with piercings and tattoos. For now it’s still pretty “out there,” but I suspect that it will become more common in the next few years.
