What is the Oldest Alcoholic Beverage You Own?

The Belgian Dubbel in the secondary fermenter under my living-room table is 7 1/2 days old.

Given the way the Soviets went through vodka, though, probably not.

Does anyone ever really own an alcoholic beverage?

I have a bottle of Chambord I got last Christmas. It’s the only liquor in the house, so it’s the oldest.

Some cooking wine my mom bought some time this year, that was made this time this year. Unless the last bits of the first real vanilla extract we’ve bought in years is older.

My mom and her husband have been dead for nearly a decade. I gave them a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label for Christmas. I retrieved it after she died. I still have it, unopened. Not being sentimental; I just don’t want to open a $160 bottle of sauce until I can sit back and appreciate it.

I have a bottle of Everclear I picked up on a trip to Tijuana in 1991. I think it’s had about 3 shots worth taken out.

Oh, yeah… My sister bought me a bottle of Everclear for Christmas sometime in the '90s. Still have that somewhere.

From what I remember of Everclear, one shot will keep you drunk for a year.

There’s an unopened Crown Royal in my freezer that my husband got for his 21st birthday. He’s 43 now.

I have a partial bottle of tequila with an identical story. Same year and everything.

Probably the oldest would be root beer schnapps from around 2003. I used it to make flaming dr peppers, but those require shitty beer and are kind of hard to drink so I haven’t had one in years. Maybe I’ll see if its still good and make one tonight with Alaskan Amber.

Knappogue Castle, 1 bottle - unopened. It’s locked in the gun safe. I inherited it after my grandfather passed. It’s from 1951, but was barrel aged until the 80s when it was bottled. He didn’t open it for his entire life; I feel like I can’t open it either.
