What is the secret vendetta against my watch. [Question about search function]

This is very odd. I got an Apple Watch as a gift and wanted to see if there were any other thread about it. I have no problem doing searches for other terms, they all net predictable results. For some reason, every time I’ve tried to search for Apple Watch I get an error message. (I tried **Android Watch **and then just watch and got that error too.) What gives?

Title edited to indicate subject. Please use descriptive thread titles.

The search engine here is admittedly a bit wonky, and it has trouble with certain search terms. This is a known issue, and since it is related to the version of vBulletin that we use, it’s not going to get fixed any time soon.

You’ve apparently stumbled across one of the sets of search terms that breaks it.

Sometimes you can just re-arrange the search terms and have it work, but I tried both “Apple Watch” and “Watch Apple” and it didn’t like either one of those.

If you run across something like this, you can use google instead of our search engine.

Thanks!

You shouldn’t be getting an error for watch alone. That works fine for me. Were you searching posts or thread titles? I’ve found the engine sometimes gets overwhelmed searching posts.

I just tried that and watch is giving me that error above. It seems to be that word as I’m able to search any other terms over 3 letters long. (Standard and not advanced search.)

Also just tried searching for watch in titles only and it didn’t seem to have an issue with that.

When I search for “watch”, I get a blank web page with the url “http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/search.php?do=process

Weirdly, in 2008 I got normal results for “watch”; but for “timex”, I got an odd result. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?p=10264452&highlight=timex#post10264452

Right, I think the problems arise only when searching posts. The search engine seems to just give up when searching those. Maybe it just can’t cope with all the results it gets for common words such as watch. I get a blank page for that when searching posts.
