I’ve been having a lot of problems with it telling me I have to wait XX seconds before my next search when I know I haven used it any time recently.
Yep, and XX is a random number of seconds.
Yup, but at least XX isn’t >120 anymore, so there’s that.
I get the annoying message “This forum requires that you wait 120 seconds between searches. Please try again in 119 seconds.” all the time when starting a search.

How long has this been going on? Does it happen every time you try to search? Does it happen when you try to use Google instead?
I need more info to try to figure out what’s going on.
OK I just tried, using the main forum screen, and nothing happened. Chrome. There is no option to use Google. Then I tried again, got the “you must wait 120 seconds” message.
Would screen shots help? I’m being serious.
How long? I’m not sure. It seems like it has been a while. Google works just fine.
I just ran a couple of searches for random things using Firefox and everything worked perfectly.
Happens two or three times a day to me when I hit the New Posts button (yes, I’m aware New Posts is a search).
I’m not sure why you think it would happen with Google, that has nothing to do with the board’s search function.
The very same thing happens every time I try to use it. I’m on Tapatalk.
ETA: It’s been at least going on since before Tapatalk’s last upgrade, so a while.
The search engine is on dialup and Cecil’s mom had to make a phone call.
My telex machine seems to be communicating with it just fine.

I did a search around 1 PM today and it worked fine. Ten minutes later, looking for the same thread with slightly different wording so I wouldn’t have to read it with a bunch of red highlighting, it searched and searched and searched until I gave up on it, closed the window and then tried again. Got the “You must wait 120 seconds” message then, so I called it quits for the time being.
I just searched this thread for the single word “apologize”, and it worked right away.

I would say use Google whenever possible and just ignore the built-in vBulletin search function. It has never worked well for anyone anytime and this is a complaint going back years and years. No one has ever said, “Oh, vBulletin search works great!”
That means we can’t use New Posts.
And VBulletin search, IME, works just fine. It just sucks on this board. I’ve never, ever, ever had as many problems with the search function on any vB board as I have on this one.
How about getting rid of the two minute search restriction. For starters, searching this board is like playing a game. If you don’t get your search string juuuust right, you have to wait two minutes to try it again. Secondly, it would fix this problem right away. Thirdly, they were put in place to reduce the load on the servers, IIRC we’re not even using those servers anymore, that was back when the board used to crash multiple times a day.
How about getting rid of it, even for a few days to see if the server survives. I bet it does. I bet it doesn’t even slow down.
