It was not terrible, but it was slow and boring. It had great reviews and good word of mouth but it did not work for me. My Wife liked Fargo and still did not like this film.
I love many Coen Brother’s Movie but this one left me yawning.
I do not like the The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001)
I rented it as I was really pleasantly surprised by how really good O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000) was. I mentioned it in a thread and someone said we would enjoy The Man Who Wasn’t There. Unfortunately they were wrong.
I would give it a 4 out of 10 so not a stinker but also not enjoyable.
I usually like Kevin Smith’s movies, including his most recent, Clerks 2. But I finally saw Jersey Girl on television, and it was a horrible overdose of saccharine-sweetness with no punch or humor. I understand he had recently had a baby daughter and was celebrating his own fatherhood, but it was an awful movie by any standards, and fell far short of his own.
Made no sense. Didn’t like the sense that there were no good guys. Changed settings and characters way too frequently in the beginning.
The movie picker out (who was not me) thought it had gotten good reviews, and liked the fact that it featured George Clooney, but didn’t much care for the movie either.
Don’t feel bad, I am one of the bigger Kevin Smith Fan boys {Despite being older than him} on the dope and I hate Jersey Girl. Every Kevin Smith fan I know IRL hates Jersey Girl. Here’s the weird thing, many non-Kevin Smith fans like it and it has a 6.4 rating on IMDB.
What on earth possessed you to see this? Was it sick fascination? From the first coming attraction it looked like a horrible rip-off of a bugs bunny cartoon.
I honestly would have to be paid $100 to watch it. I just cannot contemplate going to see it. I feel sorry for your suffering.
The questions are serious BTW, and not meant to be insulting, I truly wonder what would make an intelligent person go see this movie and I consider you and intelligent person.
New Rose Hotel. I’m a big William Gibson fan, I liked the short story, I’m not an action junkie, and I generally appreciate gratuitous sex scenes, but somehow this movie just couldn’t pull it off. The sex is a lot like a Gibson story, not really erotic and just an minor part of the plot, as everyday and boring as someone check their email. I guess the director should be praised for making Asia Argento bland and uninteresting, but somehow I can’t bring myself to believe that this is a good thing.
Willem Defoe and Christopher Walken also bored me (not that I’ve ever wanted to see either of them nekkid)
It makes me sad, I really hoped it would make up for Johnny Mnemonic.
I love Terry Gilliam, so I was surprised and disappointed that I found The Brothers Grimm to be unwatchably bad. I didn’t make it to the end, so I may have missed something wonderful, but somehow I doubt it.
Tapeheads. I had been wanting to see it for a long time, too. It stars two of my favorite actors (John Cusack and Tim Robbins) and I loved the idea of lampooning music videos. So it was a real disappointment to find it completely unfunny, tedious and charmless. It had planned on watching another film after it, but I was so put off by this film that I couldn’t get in the mood.
I like westerns, not just westerns but I do enjoy a good western. IMHO Lonesome Dove is one of the best ever made. Open Range was pretty good too. This summer Robert Duvall and company were comparing his latest movie as being “the best western since Lonesome Dove” and better than Open Range.
It was of course… Broken Trail oh my god! I had to force myself to sit through it. You keep thinking, a few more minutes and it’ll pickup. You say that all the way to the end. Nothing from start to finish. Don’t waste your time on this flop. :smack:
No you didn’t miss anything. It got worse actually as the movie progressed. I saw it a couple of weeks ago. You’re right, it sucked pretty hard.
I seem to have watched or attempted to watch several really BAD movies this summer. I got Dish network awhile back and so far their programming has been really disappointing. I get the next best package they offer and it is just about worthless, IMHO.
I watched Knock on Any Door (1949) on TCM last night. Absolutely ghastly. And, I’ll add, by far the worst Bogart movie I’ve ever watched. Though in all fairness, John Derek, of Bo Derek fame, had more screen time.
