What is this card trick called?

A magician fans a deck of cards, then puts out a hand that appears empty. Then, a single card appears between the fingers, seemingly from nowhere. The card is thrown down, out of the hand. Then another card makes an appearance. And another. Soon, a flurry of cards are thrown down in a non-stop stream.

Backpalming.

Thanks, yes that’s it.

One of the greats, Channing Pollock:

Wow! That guy is good! At one point he rolls his sleeves up, yet he’s still producing those damn pigeons from handkerchiefs. Where the hell was he hiding them?

Magicians, please explain how he did that very last trick, which I won’t give away here. Use spoiler tags if you wish.

Every time, right after he hands the bird to the assistant, there is a camera change right as she turns and walks away. I think that she gives him the bird back somehow and it taking a fake bird away.

Well, except that occasionally he produces two birds.

No. He produces all the live doves you see him produce. Magicians of his day didn’t rely on camera tricks as they mainly performed their acts live in theaters.

I’ve always liked this clip of Penn & Teller explaining sleight of hand.

Are those birds comfortable during those sorts of performances? It seems like they must be fairly content throughout the proceedings, since they don’t try to go haring off immediately…

On the other hand, they are pigeons; so presumably they’d be willing to stick their heads into a light socket as long as they think there’s popcorn inside.
