What is this European hat decoration called?

In a round about way, I inherrited a hat pin from my grandfather. Supposedly, he was rather fond of it, and I’d like to see if there is any history or other significance to it.

Google’s been no help, but probably because I don’t have a name for it.

It appears to be a small silver cone holding what I assume to be a lock of elk hair.

I’m reminded of it because of a Green Acres re-run and Oliver appears to have the same or very much the same pin on his hat.

That decoration is standard on Tyrolean hats.

I knew you’d be asking about that little hair floret. I have relatives in Austria (some of them Tyrolean) and I’ve seen more than a few of those things, yet I’ve never managed to ask what they were called.

So, I’d also like to know.

[sub]Yeah, big help, I know.[/sub]

It does indeed seem to be the exact same pin… thanks Fear! I’m still curious to know if the decoration has an actual name or meaning.

I googled on bristle brush without success.

This site indicates that it is called a Gamsbartbinden (tuft of a chamois hair used as a hat decoration).

Yea Colibri, So, I inherited a Bart! A HirshBart to be exact.
