What Is This Guy Saying?

The actresses/actor from the Australian show Prisoner (Prisoner: Cell Block H), did a concert for the actual Pentridge Prison in Australia.

Anyway I was looking at a YouTube clip of it. Gerard “Jim 'Fletch” Fletcher" Maguire is doing the number “Style” originally from the show The Magic Man

Because of the prison theme they changed some of the lyrics a bit to fit the prison theme.

OK now around 2:34 he sings something like “I look grouse” Is that correct? If so what can that mean? If not what is he singing?

The original lyrics are:

He is singing:

As you can see they substitute to fit the prison theme of institutional

The YouTube video: Prisoner In Concert and the part I’m asking about takes place about 2:34

Thanks

‘Grouse’ is Australian English, colloquial.

Grouse

grouse
adj
Austral and NZ slang: excellent

Not heard as much anymore but still well understood.

I like to help out with language questions when I feel confident I might know the answer, just in keeping with the spirit of this board to promote understanding and knowledge.
But why did you allow us watch that video? What did I ever do to you?? :frowning:

And yes, 'grouse" means “great”, “ace”, “fantastic” etc.
I’m going to lie down now.

I googled it but it didn’t come up in the Aussie slang dictionary.

When I was watching Prisoner the convicts would say something like “She don’t have the mouse to do that.”

Which was confusing as they had a character on the show named Heather “Mouse” Trapp.

I finally figured out they were saying “Nous” which means common sense

As for the video it was pretty good, I thought. You’d appreciate it more if you have ever seen the series

Oh yeah? Come to my house. My husband says it every five minutes.

“Ya look grouse, baby!”

I expect this is because he is from Melbourne, or at least that’s what he says.
