Is it the head of a golf club? Or the grip?
UPDATE
Still no correct answer. There was somewhat of a clue given. One person said she was tired of guessing and was going to stop. She was told, and I quote:
*
dont give up yet you have gotten very very close “keep your ears on”*[sic]
I promptly guessed:
earbuds
headphones
bluetooth device
cell phone speaker
PC speaker
iPod case
iPod speaker
mp3 player
headset speaker
Like this, only a different brand, maybe…
What were her guesses?
Playing with brightness and contrast make a lot of things more clear.
Eraser
Pumice
Can strainer
The lid for a salt or pepper shaker
Comfort grip on a hose
Bicycle grip
Thigh master
cat ball
Seems to work with the new clue.
New clue:
The logo on the item in question is that of a viper.
I immediately guessed car alarm fob and car alarm fob case
We have boxes of snapshots from when I was a kid, and any family member can pick one at random and say, “What the Hell is that?” (other version, “Who in the Hell is that?”)
Human beings have some sort of aversion to throwing away pictures. We all need to take a deep breath, look at those photographs, and say, “This is TRASH, I’m going to get rid of it.”
This “thing” is the digital equivalent of an unknown snapshot. Delete it off the card and move on.

You know for a time back in the 70’s, a popular saying for “keep your ears on” meant keep your CB radio on and a popular brand of CB radio was Cobra. Wonder if there could be a connection.
Hmm, take a look at some of these pics of Cobra CB radios. pics
Here’s a microphone with a viper type logo that might resemble the mystery pic. Cobra microphone
No, I don’t think so now that I look more. The scale of the holes is wrong vs the width of the mystery object, and also the depressions on the mystery object show a pronounced cup shape that I don’t think these microphone holes have which are more just punched straight through without the concave shape of our mystery pic indents. Oh well… Sorry for so many posts. I will be patient and wait.
I don’t know, the clues match up. I was thinking the same thing about “do you have your ears on”. We may not have the right mic picture to match up.
the only problem with Cobra brand microphones is the number of holes.
Another problem - to be a considered “a viper”, a snake has to be from the Family Viperidae (the vipers) and Cobras are not vipers, they’re from the Family Elapidae (sea serpents).
But then again, sometimes people use the term “viper” loosely to mean “any venomous snake”.
I don’t think though they would come right out and say “viper” and mean the actual brand “viper”. That would make it too easy. My hunch is we’re looking for some kind of viper-like logo, but not necessarily specifically for a viper-brand automobile.
I noticed the OP posted that one of the recent clues was "dont give up yet you have gotten very very close, “keep your ears on”[sic]
“you have gotten very very close” was apparently in response to these guesses…
Eraser
Pumice
Can strainer
The lid for a salt or pepper shaker
Comfort grip on a hose
Bicycle grip
Thigh master
cat ball
Which one(s) on the list above is/are “very very close”? “keep your ears on”? I was thinking of some kind of strainer someone might use to cook ears of corn, but wasn’t able to extend that lead.
Someone finally guessed it…
It is a Walkie Talkie.
This just in, it was NOT a golf ball! (Who knew?)
Was it a Cobra brand walkie talkie?
It was indeed. I tried to argue the point that if he could classify a cobra as a viper, my guess of CB radio (posted minuted before the winner’s walkie talkie guess) should have been close enough to count as the winning guess.
Alas, he did not but my logic.
Tell whoever it is that made that contest to pick up some photography skills before trying something like this again.
Extreme close-up does NOT absolutely require non-existent focus.
