What is this seafood thing?

I got some seafood soup from a local Chinese food place, and several of these hollow “tubes” were in it. Chewy, but not overly so, definitely some kind of flesh. I couldn’t tell if the hatching on it was decorative, natural, or some artifact from preparing the food. Other ingredients included prawns and scallops.

It’s probably squid. It’s been scored like that to make it less chewy and for decoration.

Squid stir fry.

Yup, sure looks like squid!

It’s squid, and all the cross-hatchings make it easier for the sauce to hang on. Unscored squid would be slick and the sauce would slide right off.
