I’ve hazy memories of a TV show that really scared me as a kid. But I can’t find anything on Google, and I’m starting to wonder if I dreamed the whole thing.
It would have broadcast in the UK in the early 90s, or possibly even the late 80s. I distinctly remember my grandma having a video tape of it, so it must have had a VHS release.
It was about a family who had a puppet child. A wooden string puppet. There might have been more than one puppet, but I can only remember a little boy. I’m pretty sure the adults were real people, and you never saw their faces (like in Tom and Jerry, where you only ever saw the human’s legs).
I can remember the whole show looking pretty “brown”, and I got the impression as a kid that it was set in “the olden days”. So, possibly a 1940s-era setting?
It wasn’t a kid’s show. I remember being told that I wasn’t allowed to watch it, because it was “for grown-ups”. So, maybe it had adult humour, swearing, etc.
But most of all, I remember being terrified by the puppet!
Can anyone help me identify this show?
