Nitpick: the original song is “Simple Gifts”, composed in 1848 by Shaker Elder Joseph Brackett. The words for “Lord of the Dance” were written in 1963 by Sydney Carter, not a Shaker.
Yeah, Little Nemo that was a huge coincedence and I was just a surprised as anyone.
But no, the third movie is not Dead Resort.
And freckafree, those songs still aren’t the one I’m wondering about. Although you’ve been such a great person by helping.
Maybe I’ll just go to a church hymn site and go through all the songs until I find it…heh.
Hahahahahahahaha, I’ve found it! Oh man I feel so good. And all by remembering a simple transition phrase in the song. I remembered there was a part, near the end, where they’d always seem like they were ending but then they’d go “Ohhh…yes…we’re…” and then repeat the chorus again in the three separate parts.
So I googled “Oh yes we’re” “baptist” “song” and “gather” and was eventually directed to a song by Jerry Lee Lewis called “Looking For a City”. THAT’S IT! Hahahaha…oh great goodness that is it!
Not river, not fountian, but looking for a CITY built above. smacks head
Anyway, the original song is by Lewis but it was remade later onto a cassette tape by various artists, one group called Sounds of Glory who did it in the version I know so well (in multiple parts, at the same time–man it sounds so cool) because that’s the way the three men in my church always sang it.
Here are the lyrics:
Looking For a City
Words and music:
Lead: None
Lyrics:
Here among the shadows
(Living) in a lonely land (with strangers)
We’re a band of pilgrims on the move
(Through dangers) burdened down with sorrows
(And we are) Shunned on every hand
(But we are) looking for a city built above
Chorus:
(Oh yes, we’re looking here and there) Looking for a city (looking for a city)
(Yonder where we’ll never die) Where we’ll never die (never die, no never)
(And up there there with all the saints) There the sainted millions (yes with all the millions)
(We will never say goodbye) Never say goodbye (say goodbye, no never)
(Yes and when we gather there) Where we’ll meet our Savior (we’ll meet Christ our Savior)
(Glory and we know we’ll meet) And our loved ones, too (friends and all our loved ones)
(Now we pray thee quickly come) Come oh Holy Spirit (Sprit, come oh Spirit)
(Come oh, come on thee we call) All our hopes renew (all our hopes renew)
In this land of dangers
(We are) going here and there
(We’re simply) trusting in the blessed Savior’s love (with mercy)
Though we may be stangers
(Living) in this world of care
(We’re always) looking for a city built above
Repeat Chorus (x2)
