Naw, that ain’t it, I’ve got more kids than cats (3:2).
and, Wile E, FYI, I’m a cat-loving conservative.

I love all kinds of animals but long ago found that cats suited my life better than dogs. My work hours can be long and somewhat unpredictable. Cats don’t mind if I don’t come home on time and they don’t need to be walked.
As for pictures, my two nephews are actually cuter than any cat but I wouldn’t post their images without permission from their parents. My cats don’t care if they’re online.
Dogs are cute, but cats are cute and WEIRD.
My cats have made me laugh more than any dog has.
Co-evolution.
Generation after generation, we’ve selected for physical and behavioral traits in our companion animals that we find desireable.
Cats have done the same thing. They’re just much less picky as to how we look, and much more interested in selecting for people who go out of their way to keep them in the lifestyle to which they are devinely destined…as recipients of irrational, squee-filled worship in the form of clean food/water/litter offerings.
Obviously cat-lovers are more highly evolved beings.
Hehehe, I get that a lot.
But I have a child, a husband, a job…and three cats and a dog. We just like’em, think they’re cute and like to share.
Cheers,
G
See, cats are great. They don’t need to be walked (have you ever tried to walk a leashed cat?) since they do their business inside, in the seclusion of the litterbox, they bury their own litter offerings, and excepting the cleaning of the litterbox and the refilling of the food and water dishes, they’re quite self-sufficient. Even food and water can be spread out with the use of various forms of dispensers. I have a tall food dispenser that works quite well and needs to be refilled maybe once every two weeks. The water dispenser is actually a kind of waterfall, which cascades the water over a dome and down a ramp into the main bowl, where it’s then recycled by a small submersible pump. Cats love moving water for some reason – without that cat dish they’ll start lapping at a leaky faucet.
Beyond that cats are also funky. They chase unseen prey around the house, and often in doing so underestimate the slipperiness of linoleum and slam into the front door. This is particularly amusing when you’re tossing cat treats for them to chase down. They’re also great fun to startle; when they’re young they’ll do marvelous backflips when you make sudden noises as they’re stalking their mysterious prey.
So, yeah. I guess it’s a combination of the fact that they’re the perfect pet for lazy people and their gaffes and antics provide much amusement.
Don’t get me wrong, I like dogs, too, but they’re a little mindless in their adoration and only like chasing what they can see run away from them. And they tend not to be so amusing when they catch it.
Oh, and doggie slobber. Ew.
Dogbutler, does that cat always STARE like that?
I stand corrected about the kids/cats thing. I’ll try to save talking out my ass for le Petomane-style parlor tricks or something… :o
Yup
Yes, she does.
I suppose there’s always an exception to the rule.
dogbutler, that cat does look like she is plotting something. I suggest numerous offerings of cat toys, treats and cat nip to possibly appease her.
Scary cat, cute dog.
A picture of the only Cats I care about.
In other news, there’s a correlation between being in the sun and sunburn.
Cats are slightly disproportionately popular among people whose social skills are perhaps not quite as advanced as the norm. Hence, the crazy cat lady, the extreme form of the case.
why is there a thread that talks about cit pics and only dogbutler and I have posted any? all other cat owners on this thread - kitty up! (I can’t say pony up because this isn’t a horse thread)
I, for one, welcome our feline overlords
You asked for it, Rosie! How could anyone not love that face? And of course there is the fat boy. And for good measure, a view of the cat suite.
More pics of the cats not represented here available upon request. I’m not pushy about showing off the most beautiful cats in the world.
I guess I let the cat out of the bag with this thread… I didn’t mean for everyone to post kitty pics, but hey, whatever floats your boat… Go on… continue posting… I was just hoping someone really knew the connection between dopers and cats… Maybe I should ask Cecil…
We have 4 cats and 2 dogs. Our most recent addition was brought home from the Atlanta Fulton County shelter last month.
We call her Mango Munchkinbutt.
