I paid for Charter Membership when it was the only game in town. When they opened it back up for free, I stopped paying.

For some reason it’s really important to me too. I just re-upped for another year. 
I just had my anniversary on March 11th. 13 years.
I used to be a charter member but missed the renewal deadline one year.
