What is your favorite movie of all time?

A Very Long Engagement

The Truman Show is in my 3rd favorite movie, Mr. Burbank.

Without a doubt - superb in every way, by every measure.

In case anyone is thinking of buying or renting it, make sure it’s the long (229 min) “European” version. The shorter, “American” version is wretched; an embarrassment compared to the real thing.

Once Upon a Time in America (IMDB link).

Wow there are many great movies mentioned in this thread. How can anyone pick just one movie? Is a trilogy allowed? Star Wars (the first three), or Back to the Future?

However… I’m going with…

Romancing the Stone.

Since I discovered Ryan Gosling’s music I have become a big fan of his stuff and have been watching all his movies. I watched Lars and the Real Girl last week and loved it. A friend dropped around and put it on and I watched it again and loved it.

So I guess this week it is my favorite movie but usually my favorite is Terence Malick’s Badlands starring young Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek.

Serenity.

Yeah, I went there. I’m surprised no one else did.

No movie has ever given me the emotional reaction that movie did. It was an easy choice for me.

The Godfather

There is not a scene in it that, if it appeared out of the blue, I wouldn’t drop what I’m doing and allow myself to be, again, transfixed.
mmm

Goodfellas.

Silkwood – I just love movies with authentic “low rent” settings and characters (Overboard) fits here too) and this one has the added attraction of Cher and Kurt Russell, plus a great story.

If the OP had asked about “modern” and “classic” favorites, my classic would be The Little Foxes, Bette Davis at her best.

Since Mockingbird was already mentioned, I’ll go with Last of the Mohicans

I am just swept away by this movie, everytime I watch it, I have the soundtrack in the car…

Madeleine Stowe has certainly never looked better. Hubba hubba.

Obviously up on my list, too. It happened I had just re-watched it before deciding to finally quit lurking.

Surely.

Mulholland Dr.

Fine. I’ll be the lone person who actually thinks Citizen Kane is the perfect movie, and my favorite. Rare is the friend with whom I cannot trade long stretches of dialogue, trading Everett Sloane impersonations and all the rest. I know it’s a joke, some artsy critic always puts it at number one on a top ten list, but I genuinely think it’s the best movie, with the best cast, ever made.

If Casablanca did not exist, then Citizen Kane would be my favorite.

This may have been mentioned, but I have ADHD and couldn’t read through all the posts but

**‘The Blues Brothers’ **is the greatest movie of all time.

As many times as I’ve watched it, I have come up with a different number of total car crashes. I especially love the end when they sing ‘Jailhouse Rock’. That song ALWAYS makes me feel like I could kick some serious ass.
