What is your favorite season of the year?

I’ll have to go with Spring. Second choice: season of the witch.

Winter. Feels cleaner to me.

I live in California, where the four listed seasons don’t exist. We have hot+dry, and cool+slightlywet. I prefer hot+dry of the two. Oregon Autumns were pretty nice when I lived there.

Fall. (Judging by the poll results so far, this is not as unexpected a choice as I thought it would be.) I live in an area of the U.S. that has 4 seasons. Winter and summer both get extreme, and the transitional seasons are always a relief. I favor Fall as relief from Summer more than I do Spring as relief from Winter.

I like them all!

Hockey season!

This. And I can open windows for fresh air and leave them open for days on end.

And there’s also Hallowe’en, my favorite holiday.

The Fall, for all the reasons already listed. When I lived in Boone, NC, it was like everything I like about the Fall was cranked up to 11. Down here in FLA, we don’t really have a fall, and I miss it intensely.

There are plenty of places in California where you can experience four very distinct seasons. Get out of town a little.

Ditto this. The last couple of days it’s been 57 at 7:00 in the morning (as opposed to 78 with 95% humidity), and I’ve been able to turn off the a/c and open the windows… ahhhh… In cold climates, people hibernate in the winter; in south Texas we hibernate in the summer and we look forward to crawling out of our air-conditioned caves in the fall.

Fall is awesome.

The weather is perfect (60s and 70s).

The scenery is great, all the leaves falling.

The holidays are coming up. You have halloween, thanksgiving and christmas coming up soon. I like that.

No ice on the roads. No snow to shovel. No grass to mow.

A coworker once told me fall somehow activates the nesting instinct because you are preparing for a few months of winter. I have no idea, but there is something about fall I find secure that I don’t feel with the other seasons.

I now bestow upon you your Honorary Canadian citizenship award.

East Tennessee, USA reporting in. We are being gifted with a beautiful early autumn here. This is my favorite season of the year. I suppose that is one of the reasons why I moved to higher ground from the piedmont. We have 4 distinct seasons here and the leaves are just now turning.

There is a fly in the ointment. This is also tourist season. And, before any of you suggest it, I must say that even though it is tourist season, it is NOT legal to shoot and eat them. Despite what you may have heard, there is no acceptable bag-limit. Just a friendly word of advice from your backwoods outside observer, Gagundathar the Inexplicable.

I’m so fervent in my love of fall, it’s gotten to the point where I can’t even fathom arguments for other seasons. The weather comes to mind first and foremost. After that follows the holidays and the kicker is all the nostalgia attached to the holidays. Also, holidays is used loosely. To me, Autumn includes:

  • Labor Day Weekend
  • First day of school
  • Playing legal, sanctioned hookie on Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Columbus Day, Election Day, AND Veteran’s day.
  • Football games and pep rallies
  • Homecoming parades and dance
  • World Series
  • NBA opening day
  • HALLOWEEN
  • THANKSGIVING
  • Quasi-annual fall colors camping trip

Even though I’m past the prime for more than half those events, the overall nostalgia attached is almost too much to handle.

I like the winter, but I usually get to experience it on my own terms (no snow shoveling at home). I like the cooler temps.

I hate the winter. Not that pleased with fall. I love spring and summer. Spring, especially.

And I live in SoCal.
