What is your favorite song?

Kesha’s “TiK ToK”

This might be my favorite rock song of all time. I’ve been loving it for 50 years and have never gotten sick of it. It helps that I don’t hear it very often these days.

Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons.

My problem with any recording made after about 1930 (a somewhat arbitrary date) or so is that I get tired of them eventually. Some songs that I loved while in my teens and 20s I can’t stand anymore. I guess I’ve heard them enough in my lifetime that I don’t want to listen to them again. But I think I could listen to The Four Seasons on a near infinite loop.

Dylan’s Visions of Johanna. This alone is Nobel Literature Prize worthy.

I’ll second that one.

But I also like “When Banana Skins are Falling, I’ll Come Sliding Back to You” by Slim Gaillard.

There is a great version of that done by Annapolis Navy students.

I like this- my favorite? Hmm, maybe.

Don’t have a favourite, but I can narrow it down to two.

“Turn! Turn! Turn!”, by the Byrds
“Teach Your Children”, preferably the Mattea/Bogguss version

Excellent choice.

When it comes to Adult Contemporary, I choose this:

Like films, I’m not sure I will ever have a clear favourite, but one that sprang to mind that I absolutely love is this, by The Cure. It’s pretty much perfect.

Just to add to this, the bit at 1m 30secs… so good.

These Dreams by Heart. The only single by Heart sung by Nancy Wilson. And one of the writers is Bernie Taupin, who wrote one of the other two songs I was considering for my favorite.

Zero by The Smashing Pumpkins. It has been my favorite song for probably 30 years now.

Great tune, but the lyrics annoy the hell out of me- why not put out her clothes the night before? Why not skip the bed making? Etc.

Well it can’t be one song because you asked two questions. My favorite song is Dire Straits “Sultans of Swing”, specifically the Alchemy live version. The song that makes me the happiest when i hear it is Tag Team’s “Whoop there it is!”, it’s impossible not to be happy while hearing that.

Billy Joel is always a good choice. If the OP’s question was favorite album, I’d have gone with The Nylon Curtain though…

The recent “Turn the Lights Back On” is actually one of the dozen songs I might consider for the OP though. But favorite music is almost always a mood or circumstances for me, so anything I answer today could be different a few hours later, and certainly different within a day or so.

Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest

That made me think. I’m changing mine to Dancing in the Moonlight. I put my favorite song earlier. Dancing in the Moonlight is in my top 10 (I do have a list of top 40 songs). And among my favorites, this one would make me the happiest. So, my favorite song that makes me the happiest would be Dancing in the Moonlight.

I don’t have a favorite song, but this one always puts a smile on my face.

Right now it’s “Telegraph Road” by Dire Straits, specifically the Live Alchemy version.
