What is your food eating strategy?

Because I’m trying to be very careful with what I eat for reasons:

Breakfast - 2 scrambled eggs (just eggs and a very small amount of shredded cheese)
AM snack: some nuts and cheese
Lunch: salad with some kind of protein from the salad place up the hill. Good variety of different vegetables.
Dinner: This varies day to day. Often a beef or chicken stir fry that I’ve tossed together quickly. Sometimes a burger without the bun, with some broccoli on the side. Sometimes leftovers if I cooked enough the day before.

Evening snack: typically a non-fat greek yogurt with some whole berries.

Generally: I’m a vegetarian who eats whatever I want whenever I get hungry.

Generally, tea, dry cereal and yoghurt for breakfast. Then morning coffee.

A granola bar or two before work, unless I feel like candy or ice cream.

Food at my 30 minute break can be anything from a candy bar to a full blown Chinese meal.

Dinner at the end of the day, ditto.

On days off, two meals or whether I feel like eating.

The only real strategy is I DON’T EAT WHEN I AM NOT HUNGRY.

I have no way to relate to this.

Is there something special about your circumstances that you require a “food eating strategy”?

Common but not universal. My NT spouse has the “food can’t touch” thing and in fact often eats all of one food and only then moves to the next. Food touching doesn’t bother me (aspie) at all.

I’m glad to see some “when I’m hungry, I eat what I want” people.

I went out to eat with a new friend a couple of weeks ago. I looked at the menu, decided what I wanted, and ordered it (2 scrambled eggs, home fries, lemon strawberry French toast and coffee). She agonized over the menus for five minutes before ordering. As we ate, she went into the amazing details of her diet, and then asked me how I stayed so slim “and ate like that.”

Me: I eat when I’m hungry, what I want, and walk every day.
Her: That’s it? What did you eat this morning.
Me: I wasn’t really hungry. I had some coffee.
Her: Nothing else?
Me: Yeah. I figured I’d be eating a lot at lunch.
Her: THAT’S WRONG! You should eat breakfast every day.

Well, people ask me for advice on staying thin, and I ain’t dead yet. So I think my diet’s working.

Wow, I never thought I needed a strategy either.

I like to eat, but I like to work more than I like to eat. So I sometimes have to be reminded to eat lunch at work. Other than that, I pretty much eat when I feel like it. I’m not a big snacker, but if someone sticks their head into my office and says “hey, want an apple?” I’ll take one and thoroughly enjoy it.

My only real quirk is that I don’t do breakfast, I do brunch. I have no interest in food in the early am - not until about 10 am. I keep a loaf of bread at my desk and will make myself some toast when my tummy starts growling about 10 am. If there’s fruit around, I’ll eat that, too. This is probably why I’m so bad about eating lunch, now that I think about it.

Dinner will be something nice and healthy if I get home at a reasonable hour. When I’m home late, it’s usually whatever I can rummage for and find in the frig.

I just like to be organized. Thinking about what to eat before every meal feels disorganized to me.
