Another INTJ checking in here (the I and the J are strong, the N and T far less so). Interestingly, Scruloose, I learned my type at a leadership course as well. You weren’t by any chance at the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, N.C., were you? I took a fabulous three-day class there in December 2003.
Among the training materials we got at the class was a book describing how a given personality type can best communicate with different types. The booklet says that we INTJs make up 2.1 percent of the population (U.S., I presume).
It says the most common types are ISFJ, ESFJ, and ISTJ. Guess we’re a darned judgmental population.
I did mine at the Coast Guard’s Chief Petty Officer Academy. It’s a 5 week course for senior enlisted personnel. We did the test, then had a class on the results. We also had some testing on learning preferences, group dynamics, and a whole bunch of other stuff. The MBTI was basically just one of many ‘tools for the toolbox’ as it were. If you can use it, great. If not, don’t. We got some books on the subject - one of which sounds just like the one you have. While I don’t have the book handy at the moment, I recall a part that dealt with 'How to be a better spouse as a _____". There were some recommendations in there that I definitely needed to hear and heed.
The sheer number of INTJs among those who responded is pretty interesting. I’ll bet we could throw the worlds most boring party.
