What is your most hated song?

I’d say it’s tied with Paul Anka’s “Having My Baby”.

I despise “Sweet Home Alabama,” and by extension the Kid Rock bastardization. I’d rather listen to, ::shudder:: “Free Bird.” :face_vomiting:

I gotta go lie down.

Oh, yuck! I hate that song (sorry) and pretty much any CD music.

There’s a lot of music in this thread that I’m not fond of but I can take it for three minutes. This will sound cliché, but the song that I absolutely loathe is "MacArthur Park " The worst. Vile.

I share your hate of the Kid. Check out some of the lyrics in the song Only God Knows Why (which coincidentally was one of the first songs to use autotune):

And I feel like number one yet I’m last in line.

Everybody knows my name
They say it way out loud
A lot of folks fuck with me
It’s hard to hang out in crowds

I guess that’s the price you pay
To be some big shot like I am
Out stretched hands and one night stands

Still I ain’t seen mine
No, I ain’t seen mine
I’ve been givin’, just ain’t been gettin’

Only God knows why

Boo-fuckin’-hoo.

Competition , at the very least. And it came out in '75, before the Rocky movie from '76.

Oh, yeah, that Sarkisian woman did a song that someone decided needed autotune. I would very much like to hear a clean version of Believe, because it might even be a good song.

So many to choose from, but I’ll put Sleigh Ride at the top of my list. If I had any friends, they wouldn’t be douchebags who stand out in a snowstorm and call “Yoo-hoo!” Nor do I care to stop by Farmer Gray’s for some coffee and pumpkin pie.

For me, it’s Wang Dang Sweet Poontang by Ted Nugent.
I’m not sure why that song got any airplay. -I really don’t want to know about it Ted.
But tbh, Ted kinda blew-it with a lot of folks I know.
He seems to be a repeat offender of TMI.

Cool. That’s my first pick. I know people my age that get all wistful and patriotic whenever that song plays, which is daily at least on certain (WFBQ) stations in Indiana. I find it’s nothing but Bob bragging and whining! Of course, most of his songs follow that formula.

Since you used my first pick, I can use my second pick- “Free Bird”. I really liked it the first few times I heard it but it only took a few times to make me hate it.

Hehehe, I wish that I could say “More for the rest of us!”, but songs don’t really work that way, huh? Either way, I’m off to go listen to it a few times in a row now. Thank you for the reminder.

Ohhh, that reminds me of the other song I hate with a passion. Back in the 90s, the guy who lived above me broke up with his boyfriend and he played that song really loud over and over for days. I thought I was going to lose my mind. I guess I could have gone up there and asked him to please stop but instead I retaliated by putting on Soundgarden’s “Superunknown” and cranking it up to 11. He stopped playing Believe or at least turned it down so I couldn’t hear it.

I’ll give you Disco Duck and other such nonsense, but there are great songs being derided by the grossly ignorant in this thread.

You’re not wrong; but the thread is “your most hated song,” not “songs that objectively suck.” Even a great song can become hated if you hear it too often and/or in the wrong context.

The Electric Slide.

My best friend got introduced to his now wife of 20 yrs all because the electric slide came on at the bar we were at and I forced him to leave and go to a better bar where she worked.

Any of the popular Van Halen tunes featuring David Lee Roth.

Every time he does that horrible shrieky noise he seems to want to include in every song, I immediately turn it off. Ugh.

It’s still a popular song choice at the weddings of a certain set of people, so it counts.

We built this city by Starship. Just typing the title is giving me a headache.

Yes, I’m aware that she also had an early autotune song. Actually they were both recorded in 1998, iirc. I didn’t care enough to look up who was actually first, that’s why I said, “one of the first”.

Oh, and that someone was Cher herself. The story I heard was that they were playing around with the new technology, and decided to get back to serious recording and suggested losing the autotune track to which Cher responded, “like hell you will”.

Oh, okay. Enjoy. Why are you telling me this? It’s not rhetoric; I’d really like to know.

I have to chime in on “Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus, thats just painful.

Another vote for me is for “Beleive (in life after love” by Cher. Hate the autotuning and way too much played everywhere.

And bout “Benny And The Jets” by Elton John, that has been mentioned above a couple of times. I love every song Elton ever sang, even this one, BUT - i can understand why it might not appeal to many people. The whole song is quite staccato, with no drive at all. It might put people off, but i still like even this song
