What is your most hated song?

“Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye”. Don’t know or care the real name of this shit, or what group of miscreants are responsible for it, but I hate it. And it gets drunkenly slurred at the end of nearly every sporting event I’ve been to in a long time.

And what the fuck is that? A goddamn xylophone getting hammered on? Give me a fucking break!

Good god, I can’t think of any counter-examples and neither can my wife. That is rare. I salute you!

England Dan and the other guy?
John Denver?
Alabama?

Any song by the nails-on-a-chalkboard-voiced Alanis Morissette, but particularly “You Oughta Know”, which makes me violently wish radio had never been invented.

“You(hiccup)…you(hiccup)…you(hiccup)… oughta know.”

I had to look up England Dan and the other guy, and when I saw their LP covers and read on wiki that they made soft rock (god, how I hate that genre) and country pop, I concluded without hearing their music that they suck. I’m not a fan of John Denver, but he’s ok but doesn’t count anyway because he wasn’t a band. Alabama should be right up my ally because I usually love country rock of the late 60s/early 70s, but I skimmed on wiki that they had their greatest success in the early 80s, a period that sucked for mainstream country rock, so I also think they might fit my theory. But I would’ve to check out their music to confirm my impression.

That is sort of debatable. He was the front man for whoever he was playing with. And it was a stage name. I do admit that he has some good material, but he quickly descended into a sea of saccharine.

I would heartily disagree with your inclusion of Kansas, especially their early albums. But my opinion might be tempered by the fact that I saw them several times in bars and clubs before they hit the big-time. They were head and shoulders better than any other live bands in the area.

I would, however, submit as a substitution for your list the Atlanta Rhythm Section.

Fuel by Metallica is pretty damn high on the list. Not only is it bad, it was also way overplayed by the “heavy alternative “ station in Vegas.

And also The Eagles. Every song.

For sheer annoying that still gets airplay(at least at Christmastime)–“Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer” holds the top spot for me.

Though the absolute worst song I have ever heard is

“I Want To be a Hulkamaniac”

Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels?

Portishead? (Sorry 'bout that.)

Repeat offender. Mull of Kintyre… that frigging awful Frog Chorus thing…

But my contribution … well, I have long loathed Queen - Freddie Mercury’s worship me posturing made me seeth with anger; add to that as much pretension as has ever been seen in a pop song, and you’ve got Bohemian Rhapsody. God, I hate that song.

As an aside, does the theme tune to The Archers qualify?

Damn, I’ve held that theory for decades, but never thought of Portishead as a counter-example, but there it is! I love Portishead.

Again, sorry 'bout that.

Well, maybe I should have restricted it to big and well known places, naming your band after a small suburb of a middle sized town where trip-hop happened to be invented maybe actually is cool.

I respectfully disagree. “Doraville” is a particular favorite of mine. Now later, when they switched from Polydor to Columbia, and began leaning more commercial (and successful) their music became less interesting, but it was still better than a lot of stuff getting radio play at the time.

I always like the Southern Rock genre and was sorry to see it fade away.

Yeah, I don’t have anything in particular against George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers, either. So, I’m behind this addendum, since Delaware and Detroit aren’t that large:

I had heard that melody before, but not that song. It was sampled by Sofia Carson in her song Love is the Name. Since this is a thread about songs that we hate, and I actually like that song, I won’t post a link .

When I was in HS, there was this song that I kept hearing on various students’ portable radios, Fire, by The Ohio Players. It was downright awful (as was their album art).

There are a lot of songs I like by the Doobie Brothers, but I’ve detested “Listen to the Music” and “China Grove” ever since they were played 500 times a day on the radio in the early 1970s. I still can’t listen to either one.

Buffalo Springfield? (a two-fer)
Miami Sound Machine?
