what is your ONE favorite film of all time?

Casablanca

Garden State.

Lawrence of Arabia

It’s everything a movie should be. Huge vistas. Magnetic actors (ohhhh, you young Peter O’Toole you!). Great lines. “The point is not to MIND that it hurts.” And a total disregard of the truth, sometimes. T.E. Lawrence (from what I’ve read) was a massive liar.

I love it so much that I don’t own it. I just rent it once in a while to enjoy it again.

Cinderella Man

Cannery Row

There are several versions of “Of Mice and Men”, all virtually following the book. All very good to excellent. There’s only one Cannery Row, based on two of Steinbeck’s books, (the only time he ever wrote a sequel, I believe), done as well as could be done. Casting, music, acting, all nearly perfect.

Oh, sure. Tell us that over at that other forum, people can’t list just one, and of course we can (although most of us are lying when we list just one). But we would have cheerfully ignored your rule if not for that.

City Lights.

Good God that would mean “Independence Day” for me :smack:

I came in to say this. Truly an awesome movie and great to watch. My wife thinks I am insane.

I guess I always knew that I have never been too cinema savvy, but of all the movies mentioned in this thread so far, I have only seen Star Wars, 12 Angry Men and Porkys…

I do have tickets to a couple of the Sundance Film Festival screenings later in the week though.

I will be sure to keep my mouth shut and not let anyone know how limited my background is.

The Right Stuff - an inspiring story, filmed with style, and performed by a terrific cast. It has a sharp sense of humor and pokes some holes in the image of the astronauts as flawless supermen, while celebrating their bravery and humanity. The visual effects (models of planes, rockets, flight sequences, etc) look very authentic and hold up well. And the musical score is awesome.

If I could only pick one film, it would be “The Wizard of Oz.” I love the film and frankly I have never tired of seeing it

To Kill A Mockingbird

or

A Few Good Men

I know, I cheated…

Casablanca.

Lot’s of close second choices though…

One favourite film? But…there are so many different criteria! Which film absolutely floored me, and it took me a year to get over it? Which film makes me sit and watch it every time it comes on? Which film do I watch every year, without fail? Which film do I recommend to other people? Then there’s the different genres…

Okay, I’ll change this up a little bit - it isn’t actually my favourite film of all time (it takes too much out of me to watch it), but it’s the best film I’ve ever seen - “Brokeback Mountain.”

For me, The Princess Bride. It’s the only film that I’ve seen like 100 times and yet it is still just as good to me as the first time I saw it. If anything, it still gets better upon repeat viewings. Few films hold up like that. (Ok, there are a few). But still, that’s my pick.

The Incredibles

Watching it is like watching a master class in how to put a movie together.

The OP is like asking Sophie which child she wants to protect.

Perhaps Philadelphia Story, or Casablanca.

It’s inconceivable.

Lucky # Slevin.

My all time fave used to be The Matrix, but it’s slow in the beginning whereas L#S is all thrills all the time.

Mulholland Dr. because I worked so hard to figure it out* and it was worth it. It’s weird and most people I’ve talked to hated it but I can watch it over and over and get something new each time.

*Not to imply I figured it out on my own. I did a lot of online reading and rewatching.

The Jerk…what can I say, I have a “thing” for Bernadette Peters.
