what is your ONE favorite film of all time?

Hard to believe I’m posting on Page 4 and my (clearly) favorite movie has yet to be mentioned:

Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

Just the most entertaining movie ever. It set a standard for action/adventure that has yet to be equaled.

Not surprised to find my favorite hasn’t been mentioned.
Joe versus the Volcano.
It’s funny, and sweet, and this bit of dialog is pretty much my mantra in life:
Joe: I want to know.
Dede: Know what?
Joe: Everything!

That movie has stuck in my head for… 20 years or so?, as the worst comedy I have ever seen. Come on, a brain cloud??

Exactly, Joe’s a hypochondriac. The doctor made up something stupid and he bought it anyway. Anything real and the audience wouldn’t know he wasn’t really dying. Sure, brain cloud itself isn’t very funny, but so what.
I don’t actually love it for the comedy anyway. It’s funny, but much more.
And yes, i know most people don’t like it. Doesn’t change my choice.

Big Trouble in Little China.

“I have no response to that”

It’s in my top five.

The Color Purple. It’s the most beautiful story of human survival.

Saving Private Ryan. It’s been my favorite ever since I saw it on opening night, and I doubt that’ll ever change.

Very hard to choose. Someone mentioned Jaws. Nobody has mentioned Apocalypse Now. Citizen Kane is great, as is 2001. But I gotta go with my heart.

Babe. This is a movie that does everything it sets out to do and does it so perfectly, that you can’t find one fault in the whole piece. The message is so hopeful, and the story so emotionally touching, that you can’t do better. If I could make a perfect day for you…

Once upon a time in the West - Sergio Leone knows how manufacture thrills. Peter Fonda, Charles Bronson, and Jason Robards do not fail to deliver the grit either. The part where Cheyenne and Harmonica meet for the first time is such a gut twisting ride, the music is completely on point. It’s just all around a great movie.

My short list:**
A Man for all Seasons
Jackie Brown
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to the Forum
12 Angry Men**

Shaun of the Dead.

It’s got romance. It’s got comedy. It’s got Simon Pegg and most importantly it’s got Zombies. It’s everything I love all rolled up into one movie.

(ask me tomorrow and it’ll probably be the Princess Bride again. I switch back and forth between the two almost daily)

Not to mention Dawn (from “real” The Office)

Hey, you didn’t mention that it’s available to watch instantly on Netflix! (also on youtube in installments) Chaney does a wonderfully (?) dead-pan job as the chauffeur/caretaker, not to mention he sings the title song!
