What is your standby "alone time" movie?

The Age of Innocence. There are others, but this is the one from which I could recite most of the lines- I’ve probably watched it 30 times.

“it’s mad, mad, mad, mad world” possibly, one of the funniest movies ever made

To Have and Have Not – yeah, it’s often been referred to as “Casablanca Lite”, but I love every second of this film.

North by Northwest – never get tired of the story or performances, and Cary Grant is so unfeasably cool.

Aliens – “Game over, man, game over!”

My “alone time” standby movie is The Notebook I worked at a lodge last summer that didn’t have wireless at my cabin. (Got it on my laptop at the lodge though:) On my desktop in my cabin I watched this movie EVERY NIGHT when I went to bed.

I still love it. If you have not seen it you must.

Favorite line "If you’re a bird, I’m a bird."

Favorite “Alone Time” Standby Movie: ** Master & Commander - The Far Side of the World**

Movies that invariably suck me in if I’m flipping channels and happen to come across them:

The Color Purple
Glory
The Right Stuff

Amelie, Whale Rider, and Lilo & Stitch

Amelie just because it’s perfect on so many levels for so many reasons. It’s a pick-me-up when I want one. It’s a very pretty film. I like the way French sounds. Plus I’ve watched it over and over and over, so it doesn’t require too much brain power to follow the plot. If I’m tired and depressed or sick and just want to take my mind off the world until I fall asleep, it’s perfect.

Whale Rider was given to my younger sister as a birthday gift, but she hated it. She said it was boring. Any time I try to watch it when there are people around, I hear a lot of, “you’re watching this one again? this movie is so boring! Don’t you know it by heart yet?” (yes I do. “in the old days, the land felt a great emptiness. It was waiting. waiting to be filled up. waiting for a leader…” … and I could go on.)

Lilo & Stitch is the same in that I hear a lot of “don’t you have it memorized yet?” whining, and then added to that is the fact that it’s a Disney movie and I’m nearly sixteen. So I can’t watch it without someone making fun of me (whatever, y’all. Just because it’s animated and doesn’t have any sex doesn’t mean it’s for babies.)
oh- also, Girl, Interrupted. I love that movie, but my youngest sister is too young to watch it, my other sister hates it, and it’s really awkward to watch if my parents are around.

Heh, yes, it’s a Disney cartoon, but it’s a friggin HILLARIOUS Disney Cartoon.

“Isn’t it great living on an island with no major cities?”

SurrenderDorothy, you should come live with us. We got EtherealFreakOfPinkness her own TV and DVD player for her 15th birthday so she could watch whatever she wanted without bugging the rest of the family (this decision was made after the, oh, 93rd time I ended up listening to Rent, from the dining room).

If it’s a long Sunday and I somehow am alone in the house I’ll watch Angels in America from beginning to end.

And I’ll watch Grey Gardens whether anyone is home or not. They don’t get it, but I don’t care.

Forbidden Planet.

Did you ever see the sendup of this movie, called Forbidden Plant? Same cast. They just prove that you don’t need a rocket to get to outer space!
