I’m the local computer geek in my neighborhood. Lately a couple of people have had some kind of application installed on their systems called ‘zupiter’ - I did a google search, but can’t find anything about it. I assume it’s spyware or something, but I don’t know. What is it, and how do I get rid of it?
Thanks,
Are you sure it’s not Xupiter? Xupiter is a fairly new spy program that inserts itself into IE and adds a new toolbar for the Browserwise.com web site. Any time you get a 404 or similar message, it redirects you to the Browserwise home page, tells you you didn’t find what you were looking for, and “offers” to find it for you (then reports back wherever you go to its marketing types).
I found that Spy Bot Search and Desttroy takes care of it. Ad-Aware 5.83 is supposed to, but did not, for me.
One poster on Fathom said that you could simply delete the Xupiter files from the Programs folder, but I am leary of deleting things when I don’t know where the hooks are, so I used the Spy Bot software.
