Don’t mean to be rude, but, isn’t your own country in a bit of a mess with many of the ills we’re facing here in America?
I’m not the one making stupid-assed claims with no evidence.
Where we go after we die is none of your business to judge, sir. That responsibility belongs to an entirely different entity.

Let’s see . . .
1 : God made us so that we enjoy looking at naked people of whatever gender we are attracted to, doing whatever we find sexy.
2 : Porn is full of naked people doing sexy things.
- Therefore *
3 : It is the clear religious duty of all True Christians to fufill God’s Will and look at as much porn as possible.

- The need for class war in America. Actually, there’s no “need” as we’ve been having a class war since 1980 at least – but only the ruling class has been fighting it. What we need is a consciously two-sided class war.
“If there is a class war going on in America, my class is clearly winning.”

Because I don’t want any of us to go to hell.
So if I were Jewish, I should push to outlaw pork, because that’s what God wants, right?
Very entertaining thread, however well or badly it may turn out. I would suggest a few more items for debate, but several of the OPs are so interesting that I think I’ll just stick to them for now.
1.) Iraq troop withdrawel. (Get them out as soon as possible.)
Agreed, more or less.
2.) Illegal alliens. (Was at a large super-market the other night and probably of all the many hundreds of people there, a good 95% were illegals.)
2a: Hint to the OP: just 'cause they aren’t speaking English within earshot of you, it doesn’t mean they’re illegal. 2b: So what if thye were? How did that nagatively affect your shopping experience?
3.) A foreign policy Admendment that makes sense. (It’s the lack of one that causes us to be in a muck field with all these wars and screwball entanglements. Also, I’m fed up with our hard-earned $$ going to other countries because of politicians taking us for granted.)
3a. What, exactly, is a 'foregn policy amendment? Are you saying you want isolationism codified in the Constitution? 3b. How much of your taxes (percentage or dollar figure) went ‘to other countries’ last year, and how do you know for certain that any such monies were completely wasted?
4.) Fossil fuel replacement. (We need to build lots of nuclear plants, as the technology to make them safer is said to be much better these days. And, we need to focus our fabulous technological wherewithal on creating motors for transportation that replace the internal combustion engine. It should have been done a long time ago, the smelly things.)
For the first part, I agree, there should be more nuclear power generation in this country. There should also, perhaps, be more personal attempts by the American public to minimize usage of fossil energy. For the second, there already is abundant research into propulsion technologies other than internal combustion, which, in fact has been rather highly developed and is not, last I checked, particularly smelly. Why should they have been replaced a long time ago, if, as seems to have been the case for most of that time, they were the most efficient and least expensive means of propulsion for most applications?
5. Crime. (Put the teeth into the Law. Build more prisons, have the prisoners help build them.)
I could be wrong on this, but a huge wave of prison building, mandatory sentence terms and the incarceration of a larger percentage of the population than in any other developed country appears to have had little or no effect on overall crime levels in the US. If you want quick, simple fixes, that require no personal effort from you, to what is in fact a highly complex problem, why don’t we just shoot everyone convicted of a felony?
6. Pornography. (Get rid of it. I say that as one whose been addicted to it for years, and trust me – IT’S EVIL! Actually, THIS should be listed at #1.)
6a. Porn is more evil than killing hundreds of thousaands of people in Iraq, for more or less nothing? I think I’ll have to disagree. 6b. As a general policy I don’t trust any anonymous mook posting on the Internet, just as you shouldn’t necessarily trust me. Porn is not inherently evil, although the uses to which some people put it may be. Anyway, sorry, not a big issue for me.
7. Use that politically-driven Ad Council to drop their current agenda and have them start pumping out this message over the airwaves instead: "There are at least 11 forms of birth control. Please, please, please, for the sake of the world, STOP having children if you can’t afford them. This ad is brought to you by the Ad Council."
At what income level, would you say, having children becomes affordable? And sorry, no one pays attention to public service ads. Wouldn’t you like something with more ‘teeth’, like you do with crime?
As for this one:

- The need for class war in America. Actually, there’s no “need” as we’ve been having a class war since 1980 at least – but only the ruling class has been fighting it. What we need is a consciously two-sided class war.
Er, I really think we’ve got enough wars going on for the time being, thanks. I’ll pass.

One poster on a message board causes you to rethink your opinion of a whole country?
"Senator, a recent Rasmussen poll has found that 22% of voters, and 35% of Democrats, believe that Bush knew about 9/11 in advance.
Since at least a third of your constituency is clearly delusional and/or stupid, what do you think ought to be done about public education in our country?"

I will tell the truth. Therefore people will no longer have reason to believe that everything coming from the executive branch is a lie.
Next question, please.

Don’t mean to be rude, but, isn’t your own country in a bit of a mess with many of the ills we’re facing here in America?
I’ll gladly join in with a thread to debate the problems in the UK, or even thread comparing the problems facing the UK with the problems in the USA, but that’s not this thread.
One poster on a message board causes you to rethink your opinion of a whole country?
I never said that. No, it’s just one more piece of the puzzle.
I recently said that the most interesting thing I’ve learned on these boards is that republican’s and myself are in more general agreement than I used to think. This is just a reminder that I must not forget some people think very very differantly to me about the same problems.

Because I don’t want any of us to go to hell.
Well, then, you shouldn’t stake out positions that induce sensible people to tell you to go there.
My main issues are (roughly in order of interest):
-
The economy, or more exactly, what has become of the middle class in America.
1a) How is the current run up in federal deficits and the weak dollar affecting average Americans? -
Education, has No Child Left Behind been a boon or an enormous waste of precious resources that results in teachers teaching to a test instead of focusing on better educational outcomes.
-
Suburban sprawl, population growth and tax breaks for large vehicles have made the roads more crowded and dangerous. What national efforts should be made to reduce the congestion on roads?
3b) Should the USA adhere to the Kyoto treaties? -
What is the US role in resolving international issues and peacekeeping?
-
Immigration reform
I will tell the truth. Therefore people will no longer have reason to believe that everything coming from the executive branch is a lie.
Next question, please.
OK.
“Madame Senator, you have stated on several occasions that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Was that a lie, or is it now the truth?”
Regards,
Shodan
Or perhaps -
“Senator, you have no experience in national politics, nor a track record of Congressional achievements from which a voter could decide if you are qualified for the highest office in the land. Could you point to some significant bill you have gotten thru Congress, before you started campaigning for the White House?”
Regards,
Shodan

Er, I really think we’ve got enough wars going on for the time being, thanks. I’ll pass.
It needn’t be a violent class war; after all, it hasn’t been (for the most part) up to now (when only the ruling class has been fighting it). I’m thinking more along the lines of everybody who has to work for a living, plus everybody who has to rely on public assistance, coming to realize that they all have some interests in common as against the rich and mighty, and that they should act vigorously on that knowledge in the public sphere at all times.

OK.
“Madame Senator, you have stated on several occasions that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Was that a lie, or is it now the truth?”

“I naively believed that the president would not ask Congress and the people to go to war without knowing for certain that doing so is absolutely necessary for the safety of the nation. I was wrong. As president, I would never go to war without absolute certainty in its necessity. I would never lie to the people or cherry-pick evidence. When at war, I would manage competently and not be blinded by groupthink, ideology, or a smirking certainty in the inevitability of my victory.”
“Senator, you have no experience in national politics, nor a track record of Congressional achievements from which a voter could decide if you are qualified for the highest office in the land. Could you point to some significant bill you have gotten thru Congress, before you started campaigning for the White House?”
“There is no other job in the nation like being President. Not state senator, not US senator, not mayor or corporate CEO or governor. It would be a mistake to choose a president merely by comparing resumes. I will present my ideas to people, and let them decide if their goals for the nation agree with mine.”
This is fun!

Or even this one:
"Senator, numerous polls have shown that about 50% of U.S. citizens don’t believe in evolution.
Since at least half of your constituency is clearly delusional and/or stupid, what do you think ought to be done about public education in our country?"
