What keeps you coming back for more?

I posted this in the pit in reply to a couple of new UK members who you may noticed over the last few days . Apoligies to the Admin. for cross posting .

It also blows me away that anybody that comes to this board does not immediately fall for the place in a big way . It is far and away the best repeatable experience on the net . The humour and intelligence of the posters is so entertaining and informative . They are throwing away a great opportunity to talk and have fun with some of the best people in the world IMO .

That pretty well sums it up . Oh and the chance that some single intelligent beauty will come to a dopefest here and fall for me in a big way

And Coldfire before you start . I know you’re not single

When I scroll the pages down really quick, the alternating grey and white background cause me to have siezures.

That’s cool, man.

I’ve heard it said that conversation is the leaven by which people rise. That, to me, characterizes much of the discussion here.

That plus the simple fact that I like being surrounded by smart, generally unaffected:), people.

As an aside, how much time per day, on average do you spend in the Community? Do you feel it’s too much but you can’t do anything about it because you’re hooked?

Next attack, take two Gravols. Usually does the trick for me.

Why, I did!

Intelligent Conversation. Actually being able to debate and learn from other religious persuasions without being called a moron, infidel…

That and I got tired of being on IRC and getting hit on by Gays. The first time it was funny. The next 2000, however… sigh

Well when I’m working nights (when things are a lot quieter than days ) and I’ve made sure the right people are pushing the right buttons I usually pop in and out over the whole 12hr shift .

At home if I’m up to nothing I usually have the t.v./stereo on and the laptop beside my couch so I pop in and out over the whole night . eg. my first post tonight was at about 8:30pm GMT and throughout tonight I’ve looked at the finale of the UK Big Brother , comedy shows , the olympics and posted throughout .

I think you can safely say I’m addicted but I like it and it’s like having your friends over .

The day I find myself popping into a cyber cafe of using a internet machine in a shopping centre is the day I’ll really start to worry .

What Scotti said. I came to have my question about Britain answered, and couldn’t make myself leave. It’s the only place you can laugh like crazy, get attached to people you don’t even see, and learn something, all at the same time…well,…not ALL at the same time…that would be exhausting!!!

For me, that’s hard to say. It changes quite a bit from week-to-week and even day-to-day.

Tonight, for instance, I was out but bailed on the events because it was headed for some serious partying. I was driving, tired, blah blah blah. Earlier in the day I checked it while having coffee and toast. Checked back a few times before lunch and after. Maybe an hour and a half all told.

Like I mentioned earlier, it changes quite often. Sometimes alot, and sometimes not at all.

What I find myself doing now, is instead of mindlessly watching the tube, and the crap on it these days, I find myself sitting at the computer and checking these boards instead. Kind of a change in ‘down time’ activities.

What’s nice is that you can miss a day or two and look back at all the threads that you’ve missed while you were away. They can and do get rivived and you feel like you didn’t miss anything. Furthermore, you can waste an hour or two just trying to stay up to date on posts if you have nothing but an hour or two to waste. Enough people are here that it never really seems boring.

Make any sense?

Because I’m weird IRL and people just shake their heads and say “Tim, what the hell is wrong with you!?” but here sometimes people laugh.

I’m new, but I’ve learned a lot from the MBs. I’ve had questions answered that I’d never thought of, viewpoints debated that I never knew existed, and learned a lot that I never realized was missing from my education. (In return, I hope I have made some small albeit substantial contribution to the general whole.)

The bantering, the baiting, the disussions. It’s wonderful to be amidst intelligent [mostly] conversation. And if I don’t like what’s being said or can’t contribute, the “back” button is my friend.

For me, it’s a nice way to relax after typing documents, reviewing permits, and researching precedents and statistics all day. Small office, big (unorganized) library. I get lonely among the books sometimes. You folks are always there.

Ha Ha Ha!

Yeah… but d’ya ever consider we’re probably just laughing at you goon boy?

I’ve been reading The Straight Dope on-line for years now, and something on ThreadSpotting caught my eye a while back. The signal-to-noise ratio here is much better here than most on-line communities I’ve seen. And because of the nature of SDMB, intellecutal half-wits do not stay seem to stay around long. I can always find something interesting, and always find something to laugh about.

I am also here because I want to inflitrate the Elite Clique .
