What kind of clubs do men join?

And meeting people is sometimes what you need to do to meet guys. Because that woman at the belly dancing club has this male friend - not her type, but he might be yours. And the woman at book club has a brother, just broke up with his girlfriend, and one of the knit bitches throws a big party every year, lots of guys…

Ayup… And the people that end up going at the belly dance show may be people you know from other venues, it happens to me.

I know I’m probably a wee bit biased, but you could try the local kitefliers club.

Fun, fresh air, snacks, and of course making and flying some really neat kites!!

I have found birders (bird nerds, birdwatchers, amateur ornithologists) to be extremely welcoming to newcomers, and clubs often have a wide variety of outings, from relaxed walks specifically for beginners to overnight trips to birding hotspots for the more obsessed. Birding is also something that can be done anywhere, from city parks to beaches to mountains. All you need is a pair of binoculars (decent pairs can be had new for a couple hundred bucks and will last for a lifetime unless you get REALLY into it and decide you need multiple pairs with different magnifications, a spotting scope, etc.), and, as mentioned above, it’s probably best to try out some pairs and get advice from more experienced club members before making an investment.

Alas, as much as I love horseback riding and try to get other people involved, I can not recommend it as a way to meet guys. At least in the eventing/dressage/hunter/jumper (“English” disciplines) worlds, it is mostly women. Foxhunting has more men, but they tend to be older and/or married. Of course, there are cowboys and their tight jeans . . .
