What kind of things do you stockpile?

I’ll bring some of my craft liquor surplus too so that I can, you know… wear two hats.

Recipe for mango shake, please. I also love the small yellow ones and have been known to practically eat my weight in them. They’re out now around here.

I have a Baggallinithat is exactly the same style. Cheaper than the one you buy AND it comes in colors!

I ADORE purse shopping and I have lots and lots of them. That’s not stockpiling; it’s an out-and-out obsession. I figured it’s because a purse/handbag is like the shell to the turtle-- the little home that he always has with him. So it’s my little portable nest, sanctuary, and holds all of my toys.

Ba-da-BING! That’s using your head!

Mango shake:

Into blender put,
Half a ripe small yellow mango, cut up
Cup and a half of crushed ice (cloth bag, metal vase)
Tablespoon simple syrup (boil 1 cup water, add 2 cups sugar, stir till clear, cool, store in fridge)
About 15 ml of water

Pulse on high until the consistency you prefer, adding more water if it gets too smoothy! Tall glass, thick straw!

(If I’m having company I can make them in advance, and put them in the fridge a half hour ahead, they won’t melt and will stay in suspension perfectly. Your friends will love them!)

Winter is Loooong where I live, mango shake reminds me that the Gods love us and want us to be happy!

Yeah, baby.

Replace the water with some milk and yogurt, add a little cardamom, and you have a mango lassi!!

Taco Bell Diablo sauce. I have a feeling it’s gonna be going for good money on eBay after they discontinue it.

I’d draw a distinction somewhere between buying in bulk, and “stockpiling”. One is more buying more than you immediately need to take advantage of economies of scale, and the other is more of a strategy to ensure you’ll have your item on hand through supply hiccups or calamities.

My wife and I do buy in bulk, but we don’t stockpile (outside of the accidental sort I mentioned upthread). For example, we buy AP flour in 25 lb sacks for about $8 each, not because we’re stocking up, but because she bakes a lot, and buying it in 5 lb sacks is considerably less cost-effective than buying it 25 lbs at a time, and we use it before it spoils anyway. Not a stockpile (although to some, I’m sure 25 lbs would be), but rather a bulk buy.

Stockpiling is my parents making sure they have about 2-3 weeks of canned and dried food on hand, along with a lot of potable water in case of hurricane-related power outages.

Tea (since I don’t drink coffee, I need a deep supply of tea)
Spiral notebooks. I always buy a big stack during the back-to-school sales.
Pens. Thoughtfully provided (unbeknownst to them) by my workplace.
Mechanical pencil lead and erasers. I have a long-discontinued pencil that I love. I have snapped up supplies for it wherever they surface.
Incandescent bulbs for my reading lamps. I’m prone to migraines and them new-fangled bulbs bring them on if I try to use them for reading. Seem to be fine for other purposes and I have them throughout the remainder of the house.
Paper towel. Always a spare 6-pack somewhere. (see ‘owns multiple dogs’)
TP. Same as above without the canine component.
Deodrant, Argan Oil, and my favorite shampoo.
Pasta and jarred sauce. Because sometimes people show up for dinner unexpectedly.
Electronics charging cords. They seem to die when I need them most.
Graph paper. I’m a visual thinker.
Pet food. Because I’ve seen the dogs and the cat eyeing me funny if dinner is late.
Adidas Oswego running shoes in my weird and hard-to-find size. I buy them whenever I find them, which isn’t often.

Pilot G2 pens, Sudafed, porn.

The hair gel that I’ve used for the last 15 years was discontinued by the manufacturer about 7 years ago. One tube will last me about 3 months. I have about 15 tubes left. So I’m good for about 3.5 more years +/-. I occasionally will find it on eBay, and I’ll buy them as well.

What’s your brand of tea?

Speaking of pet food, I feed my three cats the small cans of Fancy Feast. My vet recommends certain flavors because they’re very low carb with a high percent of protein. I order two cases a week from Amazon. (Google Fancy Feast high protein and you’ll probably find a list.) I’d never be able to keep stocked with the right flavors from the grocery store. Plus, I love having the cases delivered to my front door. This isn’t stockpiling, as a stockpile never has a chance to develop.

Pepsodent. Hard to find, and usually only a buck for a large tube.
Deodorant. Hard to find brand at a decent price.
Spiral notebooks. I really have no use for them, and don’t know why I do this.
Ibuprofen gel caps.
Lip balm, mainly due to my misplacing tendencies.

I’m the king of paper towels. We’ve got four dogs and they come in handy. My oddball stockpile item is wire, namely audio video connectors and extension cords. I grab them at estate and tag sale and have almost never had to buy a ridiculously priced item from Best Buy, or worse the Radio Shack.

When we attempted extrem couponing, ok, lacksaidaiscal couponing, we were flush with body wash, deodorant and shaving cream. So much so that I only recently had to but any, having consumed the last of the stockpile (and got bored with the coupons). I can’t believe how expensive the merchandise was. I generally am not brand loyal, except for these items. I was shocked to see the difference in price from three years ago. Yes. I had thatmuch

If I want a really top drawer hot cuppa, I indulge in Mariage Freres Earl Grey Imperial. But if I just want some tea bags to make sun tea, any Earl Grey in the grocery store will do.

I buy butter. My wife doesn’t eat it but I know it lasts a long time in the freezer and it drives her nuts. The checkout ladies know this and ask me, in front of my wife if I’ve forgotten my butter. I only buy it when I’m by myself but if you’re making cookies or baking cakes, I’m your man

I ended up with a free case (48 bars) of Cashmere Bouquet “beauty soap” back around '08. I’m down to two and a half bars now. It will feel weird buying soap after those run out.

I do stock up on chicken thighs when they’re on sale, since they’re my favorite meat.

What’s your favorite butter? (I’m taking notes.)

Stationery (pens, small notepads, Post It notes in particular).
Shampoo
Toothpaste
Handcream
Books

Other than keeping a well-stocked pantry and such:

Cat food - I always like to keep at least a month’s supply on hand for the kitties.

Hotel soap - Unlike someone above, we use the stuff as our regular shower and hand soap. I travel enough during the year and stay at nice enough places to make it very effective and thrifty.

Alcohol - Prohibition might be just around the corner! Better buy another handle of bourbon just to be safe.

Paper products - Paper towels, napkins, tissue, TP - all get stocked up on whenever there is a sale.

At school I am the King of the Supply Cabinet. I think my desk has enough supplies to last me through the next 4 years, at least.

Piles. I keep them in…never mind.
