Ruby, the half human Jack Russell Terrier. She’s nuts and a riot to have around. She thinks she is a queen.
I have the world’s most bitchen bichon frise, Spunky. He’s the living epitome of both his name and the term lap dog – when he wants to be cuddled and loved, he spunkily jumps all over your legs until you pick him up and give him the love he deserves.
I rescued this poor little animal from our previous apartment building; someone had tried to drown him in a laundry tub (in a public laundry room) when he was a brand new pup. Again, true to his name, he managed to clambor up to the top of the tub and hang on for dear life for I don’t know how long, just managing to keep his little head above water until I found him and scooped him out of doom.
His brush with the eternal at such a young age seems to have warped him slightly, but in good ways. He still loves bathtime, strangers, dark places, vacuum cleaners and all of the things dogs are supposed to hate. He dislikes liver and bacon and having his tummy scratched, which dogs are supposed to love. Oh well. He’s a great little guy.
Alvin, the Jardine’s parrot, and his good friend Penny the guinea pig: he loves to sit on her cage and hang out. And then there’s Cookie,
sometimes called the invisible woman, because she’s a nervous, demented cat who hides most of the time. (Cookie’s the gray and white one; the other cat, Justin, is now with the One who hears the meow of the declawed.)
I’ve got a Senegal parrot named Sabrina, and a pair of rabbits named Mika and Gerhard (after F1 drivers Mika Hakkinen and Gerhard Berger).
Cats:
Alex, a 13-year old longhair bicolor tabby (white chest, belly and footsies. He’s BOOTIFUL!) Also known as - Business man, because of his suit-like appearance, Pegleg Pete, because of his limp (long story). He’s very playful for his age and attacks the carpet in the hall on a daily basis. Oh, and he humps blankets.
Goldy, a 2-year old shorthair orange tabby. Also known as - Tail, because it’s so expressive, Pink, because his nose is bright pink when he’s happy and relaxed. I wanted to name him Tango because he dances when he walks, and did moreso as a kitten, but alas, it never stuck. He purrs all the time. he’s so sweet!
Blacky, a 2-year old longhair black (with mahogany underfur) kitty. Also known as - Toby, my father’s NOT-so-PC name for him. He’s also very beautiful and he knows it. Prances around like a queen, flutters his eyelashes.
Prince, the dog. A loverly mutt descended from purebreds, he’s bootiful, loyal, used to be as hyper as doggily possible. He’s a sook. He’s very disobedient. He knows when I want him to sit, etc. but will refuse to unless I -stand- over him and look down. I can cuddle him for an hour and he still gives me baleful looks when I move. He loved Dad first and me second, so I kinda inherited his heart… smooches puppy on the head He also needs a bath! smelly face
2 cats - Bart and P.J.
A bunch of fish - not named. C’mon- what’s the point?
Mind you, what’s the point of naming the cats? They just ignore me too…
I agree. I think cats laugh at the names we give em anyways - that’s why ours have no ‘real’ names
What? No Iguana?
tlw I used to have a bichon frise too - he was the best dog ever!!
Recently, I went into my store and one of the part-timers was there with her little dog, only it wasn’t her dog - it was my do REINCARNATED!! I looked at him and said “Oh my God - It’s YOU!!”
He looked at me, leapt into my arms and went CRAZY!
Anne was totally baffled - she said he was a friendly dog, but not that friendly.
Very odd - so now Peanut is my honorary dog.
Currently we only have Pugsley the Wonder Dog.
Over the years:
Dogs: Pierre, Spots, Bud the shit-eating poodle, Bud the cocker spaniel, Morgan (le Fey), Bandit, and Zeno.
Cats: Shadow, Nameless, Sabotage Annie (very appropriate name).
Hamsters: Bandit, Father Hamlet
Squirrel: Thorn, although my sister called it Rose.
Countless sick, pregnant, and wounded cats, squirrels, rabbits, dogs, birds, and assorted other varmints, most of whom were never named–the word is out in the Animal Kingdom–free food, medicine, and lodging at Mephisto’s house.
Not counting the pets that were primarily my dad’s or sister’s, or later on, my wife’s various animals.
Nameless snakes and fish and birds.
Oh God, how could I forget! I also briefly had joint-custody of a giant snapping turtle, but my grandfather boiled it (alive I think)so he could remove the shell and make something out of it.
Tera - Huskie / Sheperd mix. She is 12 years old. I think she doesn’t have a clue that she is a dog. She does not like to walk in wet grass or mud. When someone comes over, she seems convinced that they are there to visit her…only. Likes to lay on the floor in front of the patio door and watch for squirrels. When she spots one, she stands and barks to alert the other dogs. They go charging out the doggie door and most of the time, she stays put. Weird huh?
Bandi - face looks like a deer. Very sweet and timid. A dog’s dog. Likes to nap in the sun. I found her in a Kroger parking lot ten years ago. My intention was to keep her til I found a home for her. She will not eat her food right away. She waits until the other two have finished their food. Then she takes a bite or two and barks and wags her tail. It appears that she is teasing the others. Strange.
Lucky - so named because I had no intention of adopting another dog. He followed us home one day and has been loyal and appreciative since. He is a Terrier mix. Very, very, obedient. Loves to please. Comes and stays as told. Sits. Great on a leash. This is strange because I found him as a puppy but spent almost no time with any kind of training. Unlike the other two. I really worked with them and they pretty much do whatever they want.
This is my pack and I am proud of em!
Murf Man - Cocker Spaniel/Blood Hound.
One (formerly) female tortoiseshell cat. I have no idea what her name is, but her “human” designation is A. P. Feline–the initials standing for Alainn (Gaelic for “beautiful,” which she is), and Pain (which she also is).
I have 2 cats. One is an orange tabby, named Arthur. He’s about 3 years old. The second cat is sold grey, and though we got him at the shelter, I believe he is mostly Korat, but who knows. His name is Henry, and he’s 1.5 years old.
Jman
I have 3 dogs.
Francesca, a huge (100 lbs+) brindle Bull Mastiff. Dumb as a box of rocks, but sweet and gentle.
Herbie J. Dog, a big (50 lb), smelly beagle/hound mix. He’s a big Mama’s boy.
Pogo, a poodle/mini schnauzer mix, who is ‘top dog’ above the other two. He’s a smart little tyrant, sometimes I think he thinks he’s above me in pack rank. Think again, my furry little friend.
I also have a tank with two African Clawed frogs. There is Pinky the albino, freakish, pink frog, and Greenie, the normal green frog. The share their space with a legion of feeder guppies and a catfish named (surprisingly enough) Catfish. They used to have a friend named Snaily the Snail, but he died and they ate him.
Cat the Frist: Midnight (she’s black -original, isn’t it?)
Cat the Second: Levis (yep, named after the jeans company - the day we got her, Midnight was hiding in a Levis bag and we chose that as a “code name” for the kitten until X-mas day, when we gave her to my sister. The name just stuck)
Dog the Only: Sully (my sister had a thing for the character on Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman at the time…)
FIsh the Only: no name, really, other than “the shark” because its one of those mini shark fish!
We also used to have a dog named Nike, which was named after the shoe company because we had a cat named Levis and we figured it would go well together…unfortunately, he passed away when he was quite young.
Feline: Mugs (generic tabby ex-male)
Canine: Midnight (chow/hellhound ex-male), Casey (Spaniel mix ex-female)
Equine: Time (thoroughbred mare), Lucky (quarterhorse mare), Fiddlesticks (gelding pony)
My dog,Killer.
A cute Red-Eared Slider (Turtle) named Pluto.
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW He’s so CUTE.
