One of my earliest memories of TV is of a scene in a kung fu-- or kung fu style-- movie where some people are fighting in a forest and then one guy takes a shuriken in the eye. This is followed by the man who was hit emitting a blood curdling scream while standing in place, motionless.
This scene really disturbed me when I was 5. I know this isn’t much to go on, but can anyone hazard a guess as to what movie this is?
Not the same the movie (or could it be?) an early kung fu movie memory I have is of a fight at a playground and a guy getting a shruiken in the eye.
Man, I loved TBS back in the day.
<bump>
(bad form, i know, sorry… but it’s been eating away at me for, like, 20+ years)
Hmmm, in a semi-recent South Park episode where the kids bought ninja weapons at a flea market and pretended to fight each other, Kenny accidentally threw a shuriken into Butters’ eye. It was pretty horrific (and sad and funny at the same time), but I wonder if Trey and Matt saw the same movies you’re referring to as inspiration for that scene.
“Pwotect ma’ ballllllllllls!”
I’d be harder pressed to think of a kung-fu movie that didn’t have a guy taking a shuriken to the eye. Those things are, like, eye-magnets.
Ok, please excuse my poor form on my first post. I offer my solemn vow, as a holy man, to never practice necromancy again. I just thought in this case it might be applicable for a chuckle:
I too am in search of this film, and I know the pain. I know it had to have been an 80’s martial arts film, around the opening scene (I think) a guy is dragged into the woods. Each arm is outstretched and has a rope tied to it. At the end of each rope is other dudes pulling his arms spread eagle. As he struggles to free himself, the dudes hold him in place as third dude throws a shuriken from like 20 feet away and, with a precision that only Hollywood can offer, hits their prisoner right in the eye. He survives this and we get a one eyed ninja revenge film.
This movie has haunted me since my childhood and I want to watch it so bad
Google found this thread and it’s really good to know I’m not the only one it has truly vexed!
Oh, and by the way, hello everyone, my name is Kansas, and I’m an alcoholic.
Heh heh, yea. It’s a pretty funny scene in a funny episode but here’s the shuriken part. I wouldn’t be surprised, at all, if it was referencing an earlier movie or show.
It was funny, even after somebody lost an eye.
