You do not have to know the language at all but which language sounds the best (for any reason) to you? I like German personally.
I like it too, but not because I think it sounds “nice” - it sounds interesting. For pretty, I have to be boring and go French.
But if you hadn’t qualified it by saying “sound”. the language that fascinates me most is sign language. I LOVE to watch deaf people communicate.
Russian. No good reason. Just like it.
Russian.
Go look up Russian versions of classic Disney songs on Youtube. I think it sounds awesome.
Edit: Damn you, MsWhat!
I don’t really like the way either French or German sound. I do enjoy listening to Italian and Portuguese, though. They both sound very musical to my ear. (I bet Spanish would as well, except that it’s too ordinary - it doesn’t sound interesting, it just sounds like Spanish.)
Portuguese for me, too. But I also love the sound of French.
Russian. It sounds awesome.
OMG Russian, deffo. I watched Putin telling Michael Dell to go eff himself at a summit meeting and just melted.
Dark horse: Benjamin Netanyahu speaking English. OMG OMG OMG.
I’d say French, actually. Sure it sounds pretentious, but it is beautiful.
Mongolian. There is a flow to the language that is very relaxing.
Italian, with French as a close second.
Swedish is very lyrical.
I speak Russian, and I have to admit that it doesn’t sound particularly beautiful to my ear any more–it just sounds like talking. Sad. I don’t find the other Slavic languages particularly lovely to listen to, either. Same with French, although everyone I know who speaks it speaks “dirty Quebec” or chiac, neither of which are very romantic.
I love listening to Danish or Swedish. Finnish is interesting to listen to. I could listen to Swahili all day.
Since I speak Bulgarian, I compare all Slavic languages to that. Russian sounds like a harsher Bulgarian, not particularly nice to listen to at all. Bosnian is more melodious, though, like Bulgarian with an Italian accent.
I’ve always thought Mandarin chinese sounded fairly elegant.
Italian as spoke by Sophia Lauren!
Oh and Finnish is a cool sounding language.
I love to hear a woman speaking French. But a man - ugh! Sounds like they’re trying to hawk up a huge ball of phlegm. Disgusting.
I love listening to my Romanian buddies arguing. I know they are being perfectly vile at each other but it sure is pretty sounding =)
And I adore russian, german and my viking buddies speaking english with their normal accent.
When I was a kid I had a CD by a band from Iceland called Varttina. All of their songs were sung in the native language. I listened to it over and over…it has a real hypnotic quality to it. Sometimes it kind of sounds like English, as in, you can “hear” English words in it that aren’t actually there. But I really like how it sounds.
French.
