Cool beans, Special One! So where in the ol’ US of A will this occasion be taking place? Cause if you’re coming to the DC area, I think that might be cause for a Dopefest!
meli - Drake just ompared you to a lusciously sweet dessert! you should say thank you.
Special1 - the location of my computer is a secret.Lawn Guylandt I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.
Neil’s devotion to me is present in all of his works, just read them and you’ll see it… well, you might have to read between the lines a little bit but it’s there!
cough Johnny Depp cough
To follow your argument over posters and Brits and such with an utter non sequitur for a moment, I forgot to mention that yesterday when I took Papa Tigs out for a bit because he was getting stir-crazy, we saw something Way Cool: A mama bald eagle perched on the edge of her nest! I realize that for some of you (like Kai in particular), that’s not a big deal, but here in Merrylande it’s still definitely not a regular occurrence! We also saw a doe and her fawn out in the middle of a wheatfield, gorging themselves. She’d look up occasionally, but mostly all you saw was her back as she was head-down in the field, helping herself to a gourmet dinner.
Tigs, **Rosie **-- the Naturalization “Ceremony” is in Hartford, CT on Aug 6. We’ll be in Canada for a few days prior (landing at Toronto on Aug 1, spending the next few days out on a farm in the sticks roughly between Trois-Rivieres and Quebec (city)); then driving down to the Springfield MA area, and finally spending a few days in NYC.
So, Rosie, I may end up on your “lawn”
Will you tell me to geroff of it? … Or just the rest of my family?
As for killing me now that I know your secret – you’ll be wanting to do it with your bare* hands, right?
Tigs, unfortunately I’m not going to be getting any farther South than NYC.
*(no, swampy, I said bare hands, not **bear **hands!!)
Aw, shucks. I’m not sure I could make it to New Yawk in August, what with everything else going on (like the fact that this year’s travel/vacation funds are all spent already). Anyway, as the time gets closer, remind us; who knows, we might work something out. It would be fun to have an International Dopefest!
Just to interject some completely uncalled-for and unfortunate IRL-ness to the discussion – I really, really doubt I could get my wife to agree to devote even a few hours to a bunch of people she feels are just strangers with whom I’m silly to spend my time chatting away
So no dopefests or any IRL meetings are likely when I’m on a family trip
That, melove, is a lifesize cardboard standie, which, by definition, is NOT a poster.
Don’t rule it out, my Wife thinks we’re all a bunch of weirdos, sitting here talking to strangers across the world and such, but she’s gone with me to meet two other Dopers, and she’s had a great time each time. She’s already resigned to spending her wedding anniversary at the ChiDopeFest that gt has up her sleeve.
So, this is where all the comedians hang out huh? I’m saving a puked up steak sandwich for all of you.
Neil Gaiman - I’m not claiming him in the sense that you guys are, but he is on my bedstand at the moment. I’d put off reading “Good Omens” for longer than I should have, and just finished it last week. I tend to ‘do’ authors in big hunks at a time, so since then I’ve been scanning bookshelves for his books. I’m in the midst of “American Gods” right now and have Anansi Boys on deck.
Where from here kids? What’s next for me in the Gaiman stack?
Ok, off to cut the grass, worsh the car and then back in to make steak sandwiches.
The un-puked variety.
Well, now that your mind is at ease, I suggest you get up from that computer and do sump’n constructive, young lady. I mean it! Don’t look at me like that! Tell Mr. Taters that if I offered him a free case of Miller Lite he’d take it cause we all know the best kind of beer is free.
‘Nanner puddin’ is made for tomorrow. That is all.
Second cushion cover is sewn, and now I need to remove the foam from the old cover, wrap it in batting, and cram it into the new cover. Then whip stitch the bottom seam - and… I’ll only have 3 more to do.
It drizzled a wee bit and felt nice and cool, but now it’s humid again. It’d be better if I put on shorts and a tank top instead of jeans and a polo shirt, huh?
I decided I’m going to try to make roman shades for the bow window. I looked up the size I need on line and the cheapest one was $101 - and I need 4. That ain’t gonna happen, so I’ll make my own. I’ve already bookmarked the instructions on line. Just need to decide on the fabric. Eventually. Like I need another project.
Off to stuff foam in fabric. Woo and hoo.
That’s the price you pay for being a domestic goddess FCM.
Somebody just has to have pizza tonight. This despite the fact that I have nice homemade chicken salad. I’d be insulted except for the fact that pizza does sound good, even though we’ve had it already this week. Anywho… he called and ordered it and is gone to get it cause it’s from a place that makes nummy pizza but does not deliver. Lots of folks go there to get pizza, so I guess they figure if’n ya wants it to go, you can get it in gear and come get it. So he did.
What he does not know is there’s a special treat for later. See, when I made the ‘nanner puddin’ for brunch tomorrow, there was enough to make a small one besides, so that’s under wraps in the kitchen fridge. It’ll be a surprise. Happiness and “appreciation” shall ensue.
Special1 - check you email
as for killing you, it depends on how you behave (nudgenudgewinkwink)
MBG, who said you could look up my sleeve?
I’ve never read any Neil Gaiman, but figure it’s inevitable that I will. Eventually. I’m thinking I’ll re-read Harry Potter 5 & 6 next in preparation for the movie and the last book. Sigh
OK…I planted some impatiens, finally. And did a bunch of general clean up. And now I’m gonna go out and eat something (if there’s anything appealing at the street party) and admire art and stuff. And then it’s back here to clean and put stuff away and get ready for the little brother who’s arriving tomorrow night and staying through the 4th.
There’s lots of traffic on my street this evening because they’ve blocked off our main street for the party. It’s kinda annoying.
Back later…

Perfect weather today - sunny, very low humidity, temps in the high 70s - yum
Best Friend and I are going to Ruby Tuesday’s for dinner - for the crab cakes - or maybe the thai-phoon shrimp - maybe I’ll just have those 2 appy’s instead of an entree…hmmmm
BioRosie one of my favorite things to do at a restaurant is to make dinner out of appetizers. I really like it when a bunch of us do this and share.
Pizza is et. It were nummy. I haven’t sprung the ‘nanner puddin’ surprise yet. I figure after the pizza is settled a bit I’ll trot it out. I’m such a good boyfriend to have!
Second cushion done. Sorta. Somehow I cut it a bit short, so the cushion bows. GAH!!! I may go ahead and hand stitch an insert. Later. I’m too hot and tired and aggravated to do it now.
All of a sudden, I hate that boat!!! <sigh>
I need a vacation.
Teach the bench to curtsy and problem solved!
So, I made it out of the house. I went and had a spa treatment pedicure. I swear, I could have gone to sleep. They turned the massager on the chair and between that and the treatment my tootsies were getting, I was in heaven.
After that, I went to the grocery store to pick up some lunch meat and stuff.
I’m home now, and **Mr. Taters ** is out waxing his pick-up truck.
I’ll tell Mr. Taters what you said, Swampy, but I think he’ll pass on the lite. He’d take you up on regular Miller though, because as you said, the best kind of beer is free.
It’s HAWT out. It’s supposed to be warmer tomorrow. Hence, the plans for playing on the boat. That’s why I picked up the lunch meat and stuff. That way, we can take some sammiches to eat. I’ll pack some fruit and chips too.
Never fear, there will be beer and sodee pop for the kids. I’ll also pack some water, just because I like to drink water when I get HAWT.
My daughter is at the movies, so I’ll have to wait for her to get home before I start chop-chop. Nothing fancy, just leftovers.
swampy is always so helpful, isn’t he? curtsy. hee.
Spa pedicure sounds nice, Taters.
Walked around the party and hop and went into a couple of shops I’ve never visited. Went into one of my favorites that I hadn’t been to in a long time (they have all different kinds of stones and children’s science stuff and wind chimes and garden art and stuff like that and it’s always fun to wander through. I’m thinking about getting a few more little wind chimes to hang on stakes in containers.
Food wasn’t all that appealing (although I snacked on chocolate-covered fruit, crackers, cheese and a couple sips of a very nice white wine), so I came home to have some pizza and a beerverage (Bitburger - sentimental favorite as it’s made near the first place I ever stayed in Germany). Parking is extra-awful in the hood tonight. Local Best Friend just called to ask if she could park in my driveway cuz she was having dinner around the corner with some friends.
I’ve got my second load of clothes in the washer and have put away a bunch of clothes.
I’m thinking I might go out and get some ice cream in a bit and see how many more people have joined the fun. It’s always exciting to people watch.
