What Madame Defarge Has Been Up To Lately -- A Yarny MMP

Thank you for sharing.

While I agree that pink is indeed tacky, avocado or moss green might go with the theme of stomach upset and purple might work for the theme of holding it in.

rosie, about the no kids, that would be my guess too.

ETA: First on page 3!! Yup, I’m a grown-up.

Just as a contrast, while I have kids, I have to admit that I never liked other peoples’ kids much. My own are different, thank heaven. And yes, the key is being able to discipline them. I like to think that neither of my kids ever caused a problem in public when they were young; I had the death glare down to a science by the time they were old enough to misbehave.

Your kids will bless you for it, if they don’t already now. Seriously, I am eternally grateful to my parents for being as strict as they were. I shudder to think of what kind of person I’d have become if they hadn’t.

Morning*, all!
*Not you, H&R – I know you think it’s still Monday. Serves you right :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey ,what’s this about not having any kids? Don’t the new kids on the block (heh) count? My children will be extremely put off if you deny their existence!

Haze – WTF?  How can getting payed hinge on physical paperwork in this day and age. You’re registered with SS; you have a number; let the school check that you exist there! I think they’re just trying to screw you.

Oh, the answers to the quiz…

I was going to draw this out, but **swampy **nailed it anyway, so here goes:

FTR, I got 4-1/2 right (I gave partial credit to anyone – like myself :o – who knew the 100 year war was in the 110-130 years range). So I guess I passed, but barely!

Rosie, your cat is adorable

I don’t know if my son appreciates it yet – he’s only 23, and frankly, I think the Air Force has done such an amazing job of whipping him into shape that I’m willing to let them have all the credit for him – but whiterabbit, who’s an old lady of 31 now, has uttered those words sweeter than honey to a mother’s ears on numerous occasions: “You were right.” We all had the wonderful example of my grandmother to live up to, however. She passed away about three years ago at the age of 102, and I never met a single person who didn’t do exactly what she wanted them to do at all times. And all without ever raising her voice. When I grow up, I want to be just like her!

Holy crap! Page three already?! You guys are a gabby bunch today.

We had big thunder and lightening storms here yesterday. Along with the thunder boomers we had hail and torrential downpours of rain. Our power even went out for moment or two right after a particularly large boom and flash of lightening. I’m thinking a transformer got hit somewhere as well.

welby, what frightening situation. I’m glad it turned out much better than it could have.

FCM, you are one cool lady. I would never have come up with something like that.

Today was uneventful, but somewhat frustrating. I’m trying to run up some data using a specific data mining tool. The problem is, there’s so much, I’ve got to figure out a way to export it to another format. The ol’ slice and dice operation in Business Objects is not helping at all. I’ll have it figured out soon enough though.

I had to go upstairs to my old office to retrieve my time cards today. The individual who made my life a misery there was very, very chilly. I killed her with kindness upon my leave taking though and told her to have a nice day. Not even a single word response from her. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I laughed as I left the office though and shut her door. I ran into another former co-worker who asked how I liked my new office. I told her how great it was to be learning new things and how pleased I am with the friendliness and warmth that is displayed down there.

Haze, I sure hope you get this whole cluster**** worked out soon. How the hell do they expect you to be able to EAT and pay your bills for Og’s sake?!

I guess I’ll go watch the news now.

Yay! It’s finally stopped raining over here, I was beginning to think we would get floods of biblical proportions. My friend H was in touch yesterday to say that she and her two friends bailed out of Glastonbury on Sunday morning, they’d been there since Thursday and had finally had enough of being cold, wet and miserable. And the bands were pretty awful too.

It’s sunny this morning, 'im indoors is coming home today, and Tin Knickers is in meetings all day (and off for the rest of the week) so life isn’t looking too bad just now. Last night I was over at Gill’s place, we were pinning and sewing the basics of our Run For Home costumes ready for some fittings at the end of the week. I seem to have been swimming in an ocean of orange cotton, it’s really quite scary.

I was telling her about the MMP and stuff, she was very worried that I was reading stuff to do with knitting since that’s a girlie occupation and obviously I don’t do any of that stuff. Instead, I’m signing up for a language class, but that won’t start until September.

BioRosie Smokey may have sump’n there. Sometimes things are better upside down. I like the kind of kids I can give back to those they belong to.

Haze that just sucks! Surely the local SS office can assist you somehow in obtaining proof of your SSN. I understand that employers need some kind of proof that you have a valid SSN to protect themselves from claims of fraud and such but, geez, SS ought to be able to help you get that proof!

Heff&Roo you’re welcome. A farting poodle should be pink and white cause pink is the color for proper poodle tackiness IMO. Avocado or orange would be quite loverly for those shudder toilet paper cover things. shudder Those things are seriously creepy.

Taters you go! Ain’t it amazin’ how kindness and sweetness can be the best way to get revenge! Good luck on figurin’ out the work project even though you really won’t need it cause you’ll figure it all out bein’ as you’re just goooood at it.

Snakes it looks like most of that rain went north of me. :frowning: According to my unofficial rain gauge (the one on top of the fence) we got about a quarter inch here. Looks like we might get some from the southwest later this afternoon. I am appendage crossing for that.

Off to caffienate some more. Later Y’all!

I DON’ WANNA!!!
but I’ll settle for just going in late.
see yatonight

SwampBeer, I darn you to heck with the fury of a dozen dim stars for being prescient. Instead of a couple of yokel kids losing control of their joint and catching the barn on fire, it was a guy heading home from work, passing out at the wheel, and knocking a middle section out of a pole holding up a 17 KV power line.

Last night was the monthly firehouse dinner meeting, and I was sitting on the couch talking to VWife when my pager went off. She was a little  , because it was too early for the customary meeting page. Then I heard the rescue squad get paged, and I knew we had An Event…

The guy’s Prius was destroyed, and with the line pole knocked out, the bottom ground cable was within 10’ of the ground; all of the lines were intact, and holding up the crossarms. The chief was very nervous.

I hate plastic cars. We have a nozzle with a piercing tip to penetrate car bodies, and I’ve done it once before on a steel hood. I couldn’t get it through the plastic of that damned Prius…

ETA: We average a fire run about once every 2 weeks, have had a 6 week dry spell, and the wreck now makes 4 within a week. Hmmm…

In other news, I had to stop at the horse pistol for some routine bloodwork related to sveltification, and on a lark I went to see the old duffer with the broken leg. He was pretty out of it, but his son recognized me right away. I told the old guy I was there to sign his cast, and he thought I was there to fix his washing machine. The son told me that he had a mild heart attack after he got to the hospital, was doped pretty good, and leg surgery was on hold until the cardiac situatation straightened out. :frowning:

Some news on the FDiL front: Goodguy stepdad orchestrated a hearing with Social Security, and ambushed evil biodad on FDiL’s behalf. The outcome is that the SS payments will now go to her account, and she is obligated to pay biodad 1/2 of the amount to help out with rent and living expenses, with the rest being hers do do with as she pleases. Recall that biodad was taking it all and living off her $$$.

GGSD also has the attention of the county agency that oversees kids like her, and more to come on that angle. The attempt by my MiL and SiL to be declared guardians won’t happen because biodad has a better legal standing than they do, so they’re switching effort into a petition for emancipation.

isn’t Mil the biomom? why doesn’t she have full custody?

MiL is MY mother-in-law, who VunderKind lives with. FDiL’s mother is dead, and GGSD, the widower, is her defacto father, having raised FDiL from the time she was in diapers.

I keep forgetting that you need a program to tell the characters apart in this story. I need one myself.

Jeez, a guy goes to a few meetings and the next thing you know the MMP is three pages long.

Thanks for all the hugs and what-not, I’m feeling less stressed today about the whole thing, now I just wanna smack momma. Swampy’s 2X4 suggestion has merit.

On the upside, a mere two days until I go on vacation! I’m going back to Tofino for more salmon fishing this year and taking along a buddy of mine. I can’t wait. Not even a little bit. I think I’ll sneak out of work early tomorrow and start my vacation early.

Lissla, nobody beleives that it gets hot in Toronto.

Bobbio, these things come in waves. You’ll have a few more fires, then spend more time picking butt.

And now for something completely unrealted: Hey** FCM**, what kinda sailboat you and the mister driving these days?

Yay for FDiL and GGSD! So, I gather she will petition for emancipation? I’d damn sure want emancipation if I were her. Then again, if I were her, then I’d be BBBobbio’s FDiL. That would be just weird!

Interestin’, I pick sump’n mundane like a couple kids smokin’ behind a barn and some guy takes out a power line. So, if I predict say, somebody trippin’ on their front steps, knockin’ over the grill and catchin’ the grass on fire, will Mayberry, Hooterville etal be involved in a nuclear war by day’s end?

There’s 10,000 people in a 352 square mile county. There are several places you could set off a 1 kiloton nuke and not hit a house with the blast radius… Geographically, that’s roughly the size of Indianapolis, with .75 million in Marion County.

oso pantanoso, I just had a picture of you in Goldilocks-style curls and a blue dress with a huge bow onna butt… please stop giving me nasty mental images!

BBBobbio, I’m totally lost but in any case I hope things get solved before she’s old enough to emancipate without a judge’s permission.

My boss wanted to know why we have 8 “incidents” pending. Because two are new from today and the rest belong to Another Team but because they don’t have programmers we have to handle them but this wasn’t decided until Friday, d’uh! And of course since I was off on Friday and the programmers have a ton of meetings on Mondays, those six didn’t get programmers assigned until today.

Glib: behavior of people who say “oh yes, we’ll do that!” without making sure whether they actually can. Said people fall under the definition of “morons” unless they’re managing to get paid for not doing the things they said they’d do, in which case they get relabeled as “leeches.” Or consultants, take your pick.

I’m always up for a hug or three, but what’d I do?

Farting pink poodles and TP cozies, bureaucratic red tape and involuntary volunteer work, flooding, surgical procedures, emergency responses, near-accidents, and miles of varicoloured yarn spilling on to page three. And it’s only Tuesday! But happy Tuesday anyway and top o’ the mornin’ to y’all. I’ve got my cup o’ caffeine, and it’s already turning out to be a scorcher out there; it’s already sitting at 24°C (~75F) and its not even 9:00am yet. Thank Og for AC. AC and caffeine. Proof that Og loves us and wants us to be cool and buzzing.

Taters - That’s the kinda revenge I like hearing about. Miserable buggers who stay right where they are while you move on to bigger and better things (much to their pressurized chagrin) seemingly because they’re miserable buggers and you’re not, and for once, they’re not the miserable buggers than end up rising to the top because everyone else up there is also a miserable bugger. Living well (or at least working well) is indeed sweet revenge.

Tigs - Your grandmother reminds me of a saying that I’ve learned to appreciate: “He strains to hear a whisper who refuses to hear a shout.” (Robert Jordan) It’s a wonderful truism: People are far more likely to want to listen to you when you speak softly then when you harangue them. Your grandmother appears to have mastered that.

Hank - Man, that stinks. I’m sorry to hear of all the trouble. There’s gotta be a way to expedite that process. I know these things normally move at the speed of bureaucracy, but a blowtorch will speed the flow of the most viscous things. I’d be calling places and speaking to superiors and generally trying to push the process along bodily if necessary, 'cos this is the sort of thing you can’t do without. Can they offer things like temporary documentation that can serve in your missing documentation’s stead, even if just to get your paycheque? I know Ontario anyway, if you lose your heath card (necessary for things medical unless you want to pay for it) then when you reapply you will get a temporary document that will serve until your actual card arrives in the mail. Ditto for your SIN (Canadian SSN) card and other suchlike ID.

Okay, I’ve probably skipped and/or missed some, but it’s starting to pick up 'round here so I should just post this 'fore it’s time to go home.

It gets hot in Toronto. Occasionally it even gets Arkansas cotton field-type-hot. Today will be just shy of that. High of 33C, humidex rating of probably 40. That’s what, 100F? Or so?

I hate summer.
I’m about to pretend the tea I’m going to drink has caffeine. I’m being a good girl today. Also I don’t think I’m going to puke. Three days. Blech. Pretending is going to be hard. This is not tea.

Today is dishwashing and cleaning the fridge day. Yay.

Dammit. Well, two days, anyway.
