What Madame Defarge Has Been Up To Lately -- A Yarny MMP

It’s very hot here.

Someone turn the summer off before I have to leave for work. You have ten minutes.

Wild Skunk. Tamed Skunk. Pretty, isn’t it?

I’ll be going to Michael’s this evening to pick up pink yarn for the poodle. While I have plenty of pink yarn in the stash, such an elegant design deserves nothing but Red Heart Super Saver. The hard part will be finding the appropriate air freshener can. That’s what Tarjhay is for!

Excuse me???

I’ve done a lot of knitting and crocheting over the years - mostly afghans. In fact, I don’t think I could count how many I’ve made. All of my sibs got at least one each, some got 2. Plus the ones I kept, plus for niece and nephew, plus several for friends. But it’s been several years since I made one. Mostly because I ran out of people to make them for. I’ve also made sweaters, jackets, vests, scarves, slippers, and stuffed toys. Maybe one day I’ll get back to it.

It must be Monday - I came home to dog hork. It wasn’t unexpected, tho, as Scruffy was chowing down on grass when I took her out this morning. It cleaned up pretty easily, so there’s that. And that was the big excitement of my day.

I need to get these doggone cushions done so I can get back into my studion and make some monsters. I think I’ve decided on a name for the product line - just gotta do some investigating.

**FCD ** had an inspired idea this weekend for marketing my stuff, and I think I’m going to do it. I’ll just need to do some research to do it right.

I’m going to be a non-profit. I’ve figured out how to come up with a fair estimate of the amount of materials and electricity each piece takes, so whatever I can sell them for above that (once I take out the cost of my booth at the shows) will be donated to one of several charities that I’m going to pick out. I’m thinking the women’s shelter in this county, or the tri-county animal shelter, or maybe a local food pantry. That way, I can make things, which I enjoy, the materials will be paid for, and my time, as paid for by my customers, becomes a donation to the community. I thought it was a stroke of genius. I just need to find out how to go about doing this so it’s all legal and I don’t get in trouble with the gummint.

Hugs to **welby ** and BBBobbio!

Off to the kitchen with me - I’m hongry!!!

Naw, that comes OTC in these parts. Of course, getting away from the hospital food helped immensely as well. (Seriously, most of the food was just wretched. Thank God for Rice Krispies.)

There is indeed nothing tackier than Red Heart Super Saver yarn, Jahdra. An excellent choice for Swampy’s farting poodle!

FSM and FCM are just too close, FCM. It’s all your part for picking a username that has initials so close to His Noodliness.

Papa Tigs just called. He’s still at work. :frowning: Sometimes I wish he would be in one of those jobs where he’s not expected to work whenever he’s needed, federal employee or not. (At least they never even hesitate to retroactively approving all his overtime!) But he gets so tired I get worried about him sometimes.

Can someone please make my headache go away? It’s all due to the weather, I know, but it’s still getting worse and worse and driving me completely crazy.

What a wonderful OP, Mama Tiger, especially all the beautiful examples of your knitting! The Moonlight Sonata shawl and the pieces that had the leaves in them were my favorites. Thanks so much for sharing them with us. I hope that your foot is feeling better today, btw.

Picunurse, you’ve been in my thoughts all day today. Many hugs for you.

Sounds like a great idea, FCM; I hope you’re able to make things work. I know I’d definitely make purchases where a portion went to charities. You can’t beat that: you get a few nice things and those who need the help can get it too.

And BBBobbio, thanks for sharing your EMT shift stories! Oh, btw, my Aunt & Uncle’s place was on 32 outside of Gates. That’s about all I know, though; they sold it and bought a condo in Suffolk about 11 years ago, just before my Aunt passed away. My cousin and her husband lived on the road between Suffolk and Gates, just outside of Suffolk (they’re still in the Suffolk area, although I have no idea where! LOL); her hubby does HVAC, so he’s been pretty busy this time of year. All my Dad’s family has lived in that general area for eons (well, several hundred years at least).

I finished up Scott Turow’s “Ordinary Heroes” over the weekend; this is different from his other works, but it’s just as good. I’ve started on “Kite Runner” now, which was recommended by a co-worker; so far, it’s pretty good.

Happy Monday all!

I forgot something in my earlier post - IS IT FRIDAY YET?!?!?! <sigh> :frowning:

Incidentally, I love the thread title!

Maybe you need a What would Madame DeFarge Knit? t-shirt?

Have you been on Ravelry yet? Pretty cool.

And good work on the knitting!

I just remembered something else I wanted to share. A coworker was bitten in the face by his dog and had to get 9 stitches. I’m not sure the circumstances, but it must have been an accident because he still has the dog. Anyway, this little event led to a nickname. He’s now known as Puppy Chow.

Cracks me up every time someone calls him that.

Yeah, I’m easily amused…

I have class in 20 minutes. Daughter and I spent the afternoon watching Freaky Friday. It was good. We love that movie–but we both think we could pass more easily (ie fit into one another’s roles) more smoothly than Jamie Lee and Lindsay.

I just heard from a friend that she has miscarried. :frowning:

Here I was thinking it was Madame LeFarge all these years–I haven’t read Dickens since 8th grade. DE Farge, not LE. :smack:

PuppyChow…HEE! Cracks me up to!

FCM even though I give you a hard time about bein’ six months and six days older than me, I pronounced you jake years ago. This idea of yours about donating profits to local charities such as the women’s shelter, just seals the fact that you are indeed amongst the jakiest of the jake! See, I can be nice when I want to!

I’ve been thinkin’ about the farting poodle air freshener cover. BTW, I think the standard can is like fifteen and a half ounces Amurrkin… anywho, I’m wonderin’ if makin’ it in say, black and white yarn, could make it look like a skunk instead of a poodle. Just thinkin’ outloud cause, I don’t know nuttin’ bout this here crochetin’ stuff.

Supper tonight was big ol’ chef sallits. I had to go to town earlier and so, I went by the market and got a big ol’ bag of bag sallit with all kinds of mixed greens and a couple slices of ham. Then I stopped at produce guy’s side of the road place and got some ‘maters and cucumbers. I had some carrots and radishes already. Anywho… I did some boiled aigs to go on the sallits. Also, remember I grilled up a bunch of chicken for yesterday’s little soiree and there was some leftover. So, I made up a big ol’ sallit, chopped up the ham slices and some chicken and put a bunch of cheddar and mozzarella cheese (cause I had both) on top. I also have some wunnerful gorgonzola cheese dressing which we used to dress the sallits. UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM… goooooooooood!

So, we et sallits and then took a dip in the pool. The water temp was low 80’s and felt soooooooooo good! Then we dried off and ol’ y’all know who changed and left cause he has some paper work stuff to get done tonight, poor thing.

Hmmmm… I had a point… oh yeah, it was a good supper and fun to dip in the pool.

Right now it looks like it could get stormy here in a little while. I guess Snakes is sendin’ some of that rain down this way. Thank you Snakes!

ETA: I’m sorry to hear about your friend rigs. FWIW I’ll say a prayer for her tonight and hope she’s doing ok considering and all.

rigs, I’m sorry to hear that. It’s happened in my family as well (although it’s been 15 years, it still hurts sometimes) - your friend is in my thoughts.

I am really frustrated right now because my employer says I need a SS card in order to get my pay. I can’t get an SS card without my I-94, which was in my freakin’ passport and which apparently takes FOUR MONTHS to replace!!11!!1!!!one!!1 The thing that really pisses me off is that I already have a SSN. I used to have a SS card, but we’ve moved so often in the past 11 years that it somehow got lost. And my status has changed in-between (I used to be a permanent resident; now I’m just a non-resident alien) so it’s all a clusterf*ck of paperwork. Gah. I wanna get paid!!

That sucks, Haze. Is there any way you can either talk your employer into paying you now and then present the card when you can get it, or talk SS into giving you a new one based on the police report of the theft? Because it seems ridiculous that all this crap should happen because of a reported theft.

I just realized that stupid FedEx never delivered my supplies. That I’ve ordered twice now. Time to call 'em up and find out what the hell gives.

A [del]farting[/del] scenting skunk, eh? The possibilities are certainly interesting…I’ll bet I could work up a whole line of farting animal covers! (Except a cat, of course; cats have far too much dignity to fart. Just ask them.)

I'm sorry about your friend, **rigs**. That's always so sad.

And yes, it is indeed Madame Defarge. A guy I knew used to call me that when I was crocheting, and I kept pointing out that she was a knitter, not a crocheter. So to this day the name sticks in my mind. Plus I always thought she had a great idea – who thinks anything unusual is going on with a woman knitting all the time?

Wow! What a busy MMP!

Don’t even know where to start: Still thinking of you picu; sorry for the horrifying experience, welby; sorry for your friend, rigs. On the yay! front: excellent news about the insurance, rigs.

Hi meli & Ali!

Funny quiz. I was too tired to think of anything but the obvious, even though I’d run across it before.

There’s lots more, but I’m falling asleep while typing (I’m stretched out on the couch), so I think I’ll stop while I’m ahead. Temporarily.

Back later…

GT

Wow, Mama Tiger, you certainly wove a delightful yarn in the OP (heh. get it?)

hugs, pats on backs, and punches on upper-arms as warranted - I did read everything, but forgot to take notes. Except for this from the last page of last week’s:

That’s cause we’re the only ones with that much time to spend on the puter.

I’m locked out at work again. Waaaaah!! :frowning:

Sustained more abuse at the hands of my physical terrorist today. They seem to thnk my leg muscles are getting stronger, but you couldn’t prove it by me. le sigh.

The last two (three?) weeks I forgot to set the DVR to record Creature Comforts. So I made a point of going in to the bedroom first (before coming in here) to set it up, and it’s not on anymore!

That’s all I got. See ya tomorrow evening.

popping back in to say that this is my favorite of all the pieces you showed us. I also like the pattern of the moonlight sonata shawl - how would that look ina rainbow yarn? When you’re ready to accept commissioned orders, let me know. I’ll happily pay for a ruana in either the entrelac or moonlight sonata stich

I did some running around today. I got Maggie her meds, and bought a book. Dinner was sketti and meatballs(dropped one on the floor for the dog). 30 days till vacation, 98 days till hockey season(Ain’t the future grand  ).

LiLi, summer heat sucks. I hate getting all tired and wheezy just walking across a parking lot.

Hi meli and ali!

I’m sorry about your friend, rigs.

That sucks Haze

BioTigs, you ought to do a farting FSM. “Touched by his noodly flatulence”

Hiya Rosie! Glad PT is going good, if painful.

You shouldn’t need insurance or delivery confirmation for me, MamaTigs. We haven’t had anything swiped yet, and I am usually home when the mail runs.

does FSM dance

I am going tomorrow to see Havanese puppies! Widdle black and white squeakers!

Swampy, please send the rain back. My tomato plants weren’t finished with it.

If everything goes as planned, Mr. SCL’s patient will be getting out of the hospital tomorrow. Hubby is supposed to be at the hospital by 11:00. I know his patient is tired of being in there, but I’m going to miss the Siamese Fighting Fish we’ve been fish-sitting. I swear the little bugger watches me while I’m pricing my jewelry and blows bubbles at me.

If you commissioned a ruana, Rosie, it would definitely be better to do entrelac – I’m afraid if I tried to do one in the Moonlight Sonata pattern, it would take me about ten years to finish! Not to mention the only way I know to do the pattern at this point is with it increasing two circles each pattern repeat, which would make a ruana difficult. Entrelac, however, is infinitely adaptable. We can talk by email, if you’d like.

A farting FSM? Okay, that’s just…disturbing.

I have a very silly cat. She stays like that for several minutes at a time - usually in the kitchen as I come up the stairs - this time in the hall. Perhaps the world makes more sense to her upsidedown.
