What makes *the best sarnie* in the world?

My first post

Anyways - I’ve just had lunch and being both stupid and a student, I decided to create a masterpiece in bread and other foodstuffs…

It came out quite well actually - here’s what was in it:

2 slices overly buttered bread
2 slices fried lean bacon
2 slices smoked bavarian cheese
lashings of heinz ketchup

I would have gone for the HP but don’t have any :frowning:

Having a lot of spare time, I’m interested in what everyone else reckons makes the best sarnie.

Also like to hear recipes - I wanna try them :stuck_out_tongue:

Humm… ok, what’s a sarnie? You have an asterisk in your title, but no subsequent asterisk in the post… Is it like a submarine sandwich, or hoagie, or grinder?

Don’t know where you are, so I have nooooo context. Sounds yummy, though.

Lol sorry bout the asterisks - i should probably have put “the best sarnie” in italics… ah well too late now.

A “sarnie” is just a British slag word for a sandwich… basically anything you stick between two slices of bread!!!

Hope that helps

Ohhhhh okay. Got it.

Here’s a photo of one, in case anyone else was confused. (It’s about a third of the way down.)

Me, I go heavy on the mayo and mustard and then add pickles. It’s usually just a ham and cheese deal, though.

if its not made out of christmas turkey leftovers it ain’t the best sandwich

and if you want something different ScilaX then i highly recommend Pot Noodle Sandwiches

  1. You’ll need to use crusty bread (go down tescos at about 7pm - they reduce the prices on their fresh bread).

  2. You’ll need to experiment with different amounts of water till you get the pot noodle filling to the right consistency.

Good Luck!

Hmm… if I’m hungry I’ll usually slap anything and everything I can find in the fridge inbetween two slices of bread (brown). If I remember correctly the last one I had was something like:

1 slice of smoked turkey
3 strips of bacon
1 slice of salami
2 slices of cheddar cheese
Mustard

Now, is that a sarnie or is that a sarnie? mmm… heads for the fridge

I don’t think we can do that for thread titles

Take two slices of basket wheat bread, lie them side by side. Starting with the right hand slice spread on cream cheese, sprinkle lightly with seasoned salt; add slices of avacado, two strips of crisp bacon, mounds of turkey breast, jack or muenster cheese, tomato and lettuce.

A few dashes of balsamic vinagarette are artfully applied, then spread mayo on the remaining slice of bread. Balance the mayo-laden slice on top of the sandwich and cut in two. Eat and enjoy!

My favourite used to be bacon sarnies with HP but then I became a vegetarian so I have to make do with fake bacon now. It’s still yummy but not quite as good as the real thing so I’ve got other favs now.

Cold Eggplant Parmargiana

Peanut butter and jam (jelly)

Yum city! :stuck_out_tongue:

Keep it simple - roast beef and gherkins, maybe a little mayo as well.

It has to be really nice home cooked roast beef for the full effect - the pre sliced roast beef they sell in the supermarket just isn’t as good. I’m pretty inept at cooking, so the only time i ever get to eat this divine sandwich is when i go home to see my parents!

It’s lunchtime, and I am getting breadcrumbs all over my keyboard.

The sarnie du jour was ham (which I only ever have in sandwiches, as I’m trying to give up red meat with no success) and cheddar cheese and tomato Philadelphia, in an onion bagel. If that doesn’t count as a sarnie, then put it in white bread, but the bagel is better. Stuff it in the microwave for thirty seconds and you have perfection on a plate.

The best bit is the tomato Philadelphia. It deserves its own thread, I like it so much. For another day, perhaps, when I have even more time on my hands.

By the way, ScilaX, green_bladder’s right. You can’t use bolding or italic tags in thread titles.

Cheers everyone - I got my lunch sorted for tommorow

Very thinly sliced onion, mayo, whole wheat bread, real parmesan.

Spread mayo on bread, layer onion, sprinkle liberally with parmesan.

Enjoy. Exotic flavor, probably good with beer (except I don’t like beer).

I don’t know about the best, but I like picking a fresh ripe tomato outta my garden and slicing up on fresh bread w/ a touch of mayo and a little salt and pepper. It’s pretty damned good.

everything above sounds yummy. but im going to have to go with an english classic.

fluffy white slices of bread.
very very thin scrapings of butter
ultra thin vintage matured cheese
slices of fresh chilled cucumber

oh and with the crusts cut off if ya feeling posh.

Since when have the British called sandwiches “sarnies”. I have never heard this word in my life and have lived in London for all of it.

The best sandwich type thing is a toasted cheese bagle… yumm…

You’ve never heard the term “sarnies”?!?!?!

Maybe it’s just a Manchester thing then… There any other people from UK who haven’t ever heard “sarnies”?

Sorry but I’ve been callin’ them sarnies (or butties!) since Adam was a lad :stuck_out_tongue:

knome hell ‘sarnie’ is a very well known word here in britain.

I’d be surprised to find a brit who doesn’t know what ‘sarnie’ means.

ScilaX - it may possibly be a Northwest thing. I’m used to the word, but then I’m not so far away from you (I’m a Scouser).

Once again, it’s lunchtime, and if we have any mayo, I’m going to try CanvasShoes’ suggestion.

Crap, simulpost. Lobsang - if I remember rightly, you’re not on the mainland, are you?

Well maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner…
