What makes you happy?

Me too. Feeling the warmth of the sun on my face or back, and seeing a clear blue sky with the sun sprinkled out from leafy trees are two of the greatest things ever.

LOL. I’m so glad my hippos are providing so much pleasure because they are a real devil to clean up after, they really muck my lawn up.

Corgi in lap.

Other corgi in lap.

Repeat.

When can you move in with me? Or when can I move in with you? I’m TIRED of cooking.

I like chocolate and cats, but usually not together. The cats get fur in my chocolate, and the chocolate gets in the cats’ fur.

Lying in bed with my girlfriend on Sunday morning, drinking coffee, and listening to NPR, waiting for the weekly puzzle.

Playing my fiddle and really nailing a tricky run. Editing a page and writing a headline that fills out perfectly. Finding a great pair of pumps I can walk and run in comfortably. A full pint of Guinness. Langston Hughes. Trashy historical fiction. Earnest newscasters. Finally finding an antiperspirant that works. The green-and-white dress I got for my cousin’s wedding last year. My cousin being happily married to a great guy and me happily not married to any number of great guys. The unread copy of The Shadow of the Wind which I’m saving to read on my vacation to Spain in two months. Carolina beating Duke. Mojitos. The Chartists. Plays or musicals about putting on plays or musicals. President Barack Hussein Obama. Bringing my own bag to the supermarket and getting 5p off. My foot scrub that smells like grapefruit. Shakespeare’s Henry VI trilogy.

That completely wiped out - have to drag my feet to walk feeling after a really good workout. Covered in sweat and rushing with endorphins.

Watching pointlessly bad TV with the Kid and making fun of people on the show.

Knowing that no matter what kind of day I had, I can come home and know that my boy Cuervo will show me unconditional affection.

Cutting the grass on a sunny day.

A perfect pizza and a cold beer with friends and family.

(and because I am, at the root of things, a dirty old man):

Watching a finely shaped woman that knows how to walk in heels as she walks away from me. Unfortunately, walking away from me is more the norm than I’d like, but…

Getting a text from my kid
My dog
My husband (these are not in any particular order. I do not prefer my dog to my husband. Well not usually. All the time anyway.)
A cold beer at the end of the day
Walking into the bar and seeing all our friends after work
Sleep, when I’m really, really tired
Waking up and knowing you can go right back to sleep for as long as you want

I’m really pretty easy to please.

Sitting on the couch with a new episode of The Soup, and my quilting. A close second, going to sleep Friday night knowing I don’t have to get up in the morning.

The perfect beer-buzz!

  • This. Sitting down for a nice hour or two of surfin’. No matter how things get, I can sit down and amuse myself at my computer.

  • Four days a week, waking up early and knowing I have a whole day of doing whatever I want to all day, until evening. Clean house, cook something, go for a walk, go shopping, do hobbies, watch TCM, or just go back to sleep.

  • Go out to eat at a restaurant, have a glass of wine. I’ll go anywhere, it’s all good to me. Those occasions are few and far between.

  • Driving home Sunday night after visiting with my mother. I feel like I’ve run a marathon, but I feel good because I Did My Duty and don’t have to do it again for a while, and praise the Lord, Mom is currently in good health.

  • Watching the birds at the feeder. Blue jays, juncos, chickadees, and several cardinals. Pretty soon the goldfinches will arrive.

Cuddling up on the couch with DH and the hellhounds.

A vodka martini with olives and a really good rare hamburger makes me totally happy.

To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

Well SOMEONE had to.

[li]Being with my friends always makes me happy. I have a few friends that are like rays of sunshine and when we hang out we’re always laughing and having fun. They’re amazing.[/li][li]Spa days (massage, facial, pedicure)[/li][li]My family[/li][li]Good sex (duh!)[/li][li]Sunshine[/li][/ul]

Making art and making love (is there a difference?).

Potatoes.

Ain’t nothin’ better than potatoes.

[li] Sunshine - the light brings out the best in people![/li][li] Cooking for other people - I just love making good food and eating it with good people![/li][li] A good poker game with friends - really just a reason to talk about everything, nothing and drink a few beers![/li][li] Hiking out in the hinterlands - it’s a pity I don’t do it more though[/li]
[li] And this song - it just came to mind when I saw the thread title :)[/li][/ul]

Amen.
