My roommate’s boyfriend is coming back to town after being away for 4 months. I have been kindly asked to make myself scarce this evening (as if I needed a hint or want to be there to listen to their reunion, although I have made jokes about sitting outside her door playing on my guitar all night).
My dinner/Christmas shopping plans with a friend just fell through. Emergency Plan B!
In my previous life I was a movie freak, but I’ve pretty much been living under a rock for the past few months, although I saw a free screening of Chocolat last week.
If you want to see a movie that is entertaining and pretty funny, go see What Women Want or Meet the Parents.
If you want a movie that is getting some serious critical acclaim, you might try You Can Count on Me. Also, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is getting great buzz, but it might not be playing in your area yet.
Cast Away looks pretty good, but it doesn’t open until tomorrow.
As for movies that have been playing for awhile, I liked Billy Elliot and Bounce. I especially recommend the latter if you have a Ben Affleck obsession like me.
Friend of mine did see Crouching Tiger and said it’s the best movie of the year by far. Mind you, this is coming from a fairly conservative woman in her late 50’s. That gives me pause. God, I love Ang Lee movies, and this one promises to rock… I’m seeing it tomorrow night.
Hmm…crouching tiger isn’t coming out until tomorrow for me. If you can find it look for DANCER IN THE DARK. I’m going to check it out tonight. It’s supposed to be a really good independent film featuring Bjork. Something about the disillusionment of Hollywood. Also about Bjork’s child >in the movie< is blind, and whenever he hears sounds it becomes like music to him and it cuts to dreamsequences of his imagination to those sounds. Or something like that. I’d recommend MEET THE PARENTS over WHAT WOMEN WANT. Just my thoughts…have fun*~
I think you should rush right out and see the Dungeons & Dragons movie. See it twice. See every showing of it tonight. See every showing of it tomorrow if you can.
If you can survive that, you can survive anything.
Quills
Geoffrey Rush … The Marquis de Sade
Kate Winslet … Madeleine
Joaquin Phoenix … Coulmier
Michael Caine … Dr. Royer-Collard
It’s the only movie I’ve had to recommend for months.
It is supurb!
