What movie would you like to see remade, but better?

The Directors cut of the 2nd was much better.

The adding of two words to the title might have helped people know what type of movie it was.

You are correct, Sir.

I agree. It is a good book, I’ve read it several times.

Correct. Almost flawless, but for that one thing.

The Secret of NIMH was an OK movie based on the book Mrs Frisby and The Rats of NIMH. That being said I would like to see it remade.

I am actually surprised they haven’t re-made Cannonball Run giving the success of The Fast and Furious franchise.

Also a reboot of the original Law & Order TV series would be nice.

They traded the formula of transparent aluminum for a few 6 inch thick sheets of plexiglass. That’s the ticket laddie.

Nobody cares about your boner.

And they were right - it was an unoriginal movie; the fact that it was based on original books didn’t change that. It wasn’t original in its medium.

That said, I actually kind of liked it, and I think it could have been a great film if they had cut about 45 minutes (how many framing devices does one film need?) and recast the lead actor.

Jake Speed

Never heard of it? There’s a reason.

Basic Premise: a young woman backpacking through Europe is kidnapped into white slavery. The police can do nothing, the family is distraught (esp. the older sister, who convinced to go on the trip in the first place), and the senile grandfather’s great bit of wisdom is to recruit one of the heros in his collection of pulp novels: The Destroyer, the Execution, etc. “I think, for this case, we need Jake Speed!”

The sister gets desperate enough to seek out this ostensibly fictional character, when surprise, surprise, he’s a real guy…working out of a warehouse/office with his sidekick who takes notes and photos that end up in the books. (“Where did you two meet?” she asked the sidekick. “Volume one,” he replies") And, basically, off they go in search of the younger sister and the white slavers.

It’s a great premise…the movie just runs out of gas about halfway through. The actors aren’t bad, but they can’t quite rise above the meandering script.

I’d love to see somebody try this type of story again.

Howard The Duck remade as a cartoon. Make it a film noir parody and get rid of all the sexual references

Spawn

The effects were horrifically bad, even for 1997. The rest of it was bad also, for any year.

But I still like the underlying story and there’s definitely something compelling there.

In that vein, how about a decent remake of Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. Except this time you have a budget, a decent director, studio support and an actual Asian actor to play Chiun.

I’ve always thought it should be done via anime.

That too would work.

Yes, Remo Williams. At least have it somewhat based in the real world. No walking on water or diving into sand piles. And somehow find a cure for the basic flaw - that the group goes around killing people who “escape justice”. Extrajudicial murders are antithetical to our way of life. Unless you make it like I always dream it goes - Remo kills everyone in the group, then retires.

And while we’re at it, let’s make an intelligent version of Buckaroo Banzai. Such good potential that came out as such a stupid movie.

Just like Sky Captain.

I really enjoyed The Fifth Element, so I went to Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets hoping it would be as good (both were written and directed by Luc Besson). Sadly, it wasn’t and partly because the guy playing the lead was really wrong for it.

(BTW, I’ll do that a lot; if I like one or more of a particular director’s movies, I’ll go to others hoping they’re as good. Sometimes they are but often they don’t have the same magic.)

I don’t think you understand who and what Remo Williams is.

Well, since it’s Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, I’m waiting for them to fix everything in the obligatory sequels.

I actually had to look up Fred Ward, because I was confusing him with Fred Willard.

I think Willard would be a perfectly good action hero (if he were still alive).

Tripler
C’mon, you know you want to see this remake too.
