We once had a thread similar to this, something like “What music should accompany your stabbing spree?” and someone suggested Yakkety Sax.
My world was whole with that suggestion.
If I’m looking to go out with serene acceptance and a knowing look and a wry grin, I’m thinking — the STAR WARS Force Theme?
In this order.. Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Tiny Dancer, Candle in the Wind. Tiny Dancer from Madman Across the Water (1971), and the other two from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973), All songs by Elton John and Bernie Taupin.
The Jaws soundtrack. I expire as the air tank explodes and the rest of the tune plus the final piece are a nice mellow way to drift off.
Yes, you may tell me to smile, you son of a bitch!
I agree with Whack-a-Mole. They have some really great albums and sometimes it sounds like people buy Aja solely to show off their system instead of actually listening to a group’s music. The age of streaming - for me at least - has made it pretty easy to sample every album/song that I could possibly think of. I would heartily recommend Can’t Buy a Thrill, The Royal Scam as well as Countdown to Ecstasy.
Casey Jones by the Dead.
“Take my advice, you’d be better off dead.”
I will take your advice, thanks.
Oooh! (thanks for the reminder @Railer13 )
I forgot the Grateful Dead (I saw Jerry’s last concert…I mention it every chance I get…I saw a lot more than that one too).
I’m thinking I’d go with “Ripple”. Such a nice, peaceful song. Lyrics work too.
“Like A Hurricane” by Neil Young. It’s one of those songs that could (and often seems to) go on forever. Might be a good thing.
Reminds me of something similar I once read about (almost certainly not true):
At the end of the school semester students were handed a sheet to comment on the class. Say what they thought about it. One student (supposedly) wrote:
“If I was ever told I had an hour to live I’d spend it in this class because it feels like fucking forever!”
So, you might be on to something. Maybe “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”.
Oooh…better yet, the whole Ring series by Wagner! You’ll be around a long time.
Ashokan Farewell by Jay Ungar
Spiegel im Spiegel by Arvo Pärt
Either or both could take me out on a melodic goodbye.
I’ve listened to many of, but not all of their albums. “Pretzel Logic” & “Gaucho” are two of my favorites. I also like “Two Against Nature” from 2000 very much. But “Aja” is the only album by any artist that I liked EVERY song on…and that includes any groups greatest hits albums.
Give “Can’t Buy a Thrill” a try. I think you will like it. It is often ranked as one of their best albums and often the best. The others are still great too. Really no bad choices there.
I’ve never owned any high-end audio equipment, but I guess I can see what you and @Whack-a-Mole are getting at. And thank you for your recommendations…I’ll give them a listen.
I’ll Be Mellow When I’m Dead by Weird Al Yankovic.
Thank you, that’s one of the albums recommended by @sjankis630 and I’ll be SURE to give it a listen since both of you recommend it.
Tabula Rasa will be remembered for having comforted terminal AIDS patients.
Thank you for telling me that - I didn’t know.
My husband died just a few short weeks ago.
He fought the good fight, but had to go into the palliative care hospital unit. As he lay there intubated, I knew he could hear me - I put Brahms Lullaby featuring Yo-Yo Ma on loop mode, a song we both fell asleep to at home once he became ill.
He passed peacefully, hopefully in the knowledge of our deep love that will never pass away.
That’s very sweet…and sad.
Sorry for your loss.
