What musical instruments are in your home?

Including kids’ toys that are nonetheless functional musical instruments, we have:

[li]A 1967 Silvertone electric guitar[/li][li]A Silvertone acoustic guitar of similar vintage[/li][li]A year-old Danelectro Rumor electric bass guitar[/li][li]A toy electronic keyboard[/li][li]A child-sized accordion[/li][li]A couple of toy drums[/li][li]Plastic maracas[/li][/ul]

–A Danelectro U2 electric guitar (a reissue, not vintage)

–A Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar, 1973 vintage

–An Epiphone “Viola” bass guitar, 1997

–Yamaha electric/acoustic guitar, don’t know the age

–An Epiphone 5-string banjo

–A didgeridoo that I bought in Australia last year, in Alice Springs

–A Yamaha “string/organ synthesizer” analog keyboard

A Kimball upright piano
A Takamine acoustic guitar
A Carelli 120-bass 3/4 size accordion
A Yamaha electronic keyboard
Another cheapie guitar

[ul][li]Various drum kits and parts thereof[/li][li] Roessler Oberlinder alto recorder[/li][li]Moeck Soprano recorder[/li][li]Various other recorders from sopranino to tenor[/li][li]Yamaha nylon-string guitar[/li][li]several nondescript electric guitars[/li][li]alto sax[/li]sundry percussion (including the very annoying vibraslap)[/ul]and an occerina.

An Alvarez acoustic, aka “Stephanie”

A Fender Strat, Kentucky blue and white, Japanese, mid-80s, aka “Chelsea”

A mandolin, can’t recall the brand but it isn’t one you’ve heard of, aka “Lucy”

Now that I have my own house, I’m in the market for either a drum kit or a piano, both of which I played a lot in high school and didn’t have room for in any of my apartments. I’m listening to “Mr. Completely” from Trey Anastasio’s solo album right now, so at the moment I’m leaning toward the drum kit.

I’m the only one who plays instruments in our house, so they’re all mine.

*Brian May Guitar
*Ibanez 7 String
*Telecaster
*Custom Guitar (Warmoth pieces)
*Custom Strat
*Fender Bullet (had since I was 15)
*Baby Taylor Acoustic
*Homemade Bass Guitar
*Yamaha PSR-270 Keyboard
*Mandolin
*Antique Violin
*Homemade Didgeridoo
*A Few Recorders
*Various Percussion Instruments
*Drum Machine
*2 Tambourine’s
*Harmonica
*Dulcimer
and probably a few other things I can’t think of at the moment

Wow, just 1. A full size violin. I hope to learn how to play it someday.

The only instrument that I’m aware of is an upright piano. I’m not sure who the maker is, since the lettering has worn away. Other than that, we probably have some old harmonicas, children’s drums, recorders, and xylophones lying around.

Ohh…
Epiphone Eldorado acoustic guitar
Standard Strat
Fender Bullet (bought with paper route $$ at age 13, nineteen years ago!)
Selmer Clarinet
Blessing open hole flute
Conn 10M Ladyface Tenor Sax (my pride and joy!)
No name bass guitar
no name electric guitar
2 baritone horns
2 regular trumpets
1 trumpet Paul altered to play in C
Buncha keyboard crap (Paul’s)
2 Soodlums generation D pennywhistles
Buncha percussion crap.

I’m sure I missed a bunch of stuff. Two multi-instrumentalists living together can generate a lot of stuff:D

I’ll start with the more ordinary instruments, then move on to the more unusual ones:
[ul]
[li]Casio Keyboard (quite old)[/li][li]Trombone[/li][li]Trumpet[/li][li]Piccolo[/li][li]Pennywhistle[/li][li]2 Ocarinas[/li][li]Harmonica[/li][li]Bodhran[/li][li]Gong[/li][li]Singing Bowl[/li][li]Singing Bell[/li][li]Jaw Harp[/li][li]Didgeridoo[/li][li]Bullroarer[/li][li]Kiowa Flute[/li][li]Transverse Flute (Bamboo, G)[/li][li]Transverse Flute (Bamboo, A minor)[/li][li]Dual flute (One melodic pipe, one drone pipe)[/li][li]Dual flute (Two melodic pipes)[/li][li]African Bass Flute (My fingers aren’t long enough to play it properly–it’s four feet long.)[/li][li]2 Bamboo Tenor Saxophones (I bought one, then made another)[/li][li]Bell-rack (sort of similar to a manjira–based on the bell instrument in ST:TOS “Amok Time”)[/li][/ul]

I can coax something not entirely unlike music out of all of them, although I’m not really in practice on any of them.

1 x Westone 1 series electric guitar
1 x Maldonado Spanish acoustic guitar
1 x folk-style acoustic guitar
1 x Yamaha SY55 synthesiser
1 x Roland drum machine

Two? I’m sorta jealous. I played from seventh grade through high school, but haven’t picked one up since I graduated twenty years ago.

Man, I feel lame. In my current apartment, I have a single acoustic guitar. I bought it a few weeks ago from a friend. Guitar plus hard case for $50. I haven’t dedicated enough time to it yet, but I do know how to play “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” so I feel justified.

At home, I have a trumpet and my tuba mouthpieces, but alas, purchasing one of those was a bit too much.

Someday soon, I hope to have a standup bass.

[li]tenor sax[/li][li]alto sax[/li][li]flute[/li][li]piccolo[/li][li]left-handed Fender Stratocaster[/li][li]bongos[/li][/ul]

In my house at the moment, there’s:

multitudes of harmonicas
a recorder
a drum pad
a marching baritone

As my siblings and I all play the baritone (my brother’s just starting out though…my mom was most distraught at the news. “Not another one!”), later on this year, there will be some concert euphoniums as well.

Miscellaneous percussives

Hmmmm… I’ve got a cello, which keeps giving me dirty looks since I haven’t played it in ages. My wife reliably informs me that she’s got one modern flute (Haynes) and three baroque flutes, plus two recorders (one soprano, one alto) of fairly good quality – Folkers & Powell, IIRC. I have in storage somewhere my Martin ukulele and two (2) Casio electronic keyboards. The common area of the shared house I’m in has one grand (Steinway) and one upright (Yamaha) piano. The other residents have their own instruments, including another cello and another grand piano that I know of, but I’m not about to go knocking on their doors at this hour to ask them if they’ve got any other instruments.

Oh, and I think I have a kazoo or two in a drawer somewhere.

Not nearly as extensive a list as other dopers, nor nearly as well sorted, but:

1 Les Paul Firebrand (my baby)
1 Ibanez Something-Or-Other (for when I break a string or need a whammy bar)
1 Hohner steel-string acoustic guitar (the closest thing to a Martin I’ve ever heard)
1 Santa Ana mandolin
1 1954 vintage Wurlitzer piano, in the original black and tan vinyl
1 Squier steel-string acoustic guitar, 1/2 gauge
1 small native american wood flute
1 large asian bamboo flute
various computer software and midi connections for the above

too many plastic and electronic kids’ instruments to name, especially considering that my daughter inherited her ear from my wife.
