What New Year's resolutions have you KEPT?

Anyone out there make a New Year’s resolution . . and stuck to it? How did you make yourself succesful?

It wasn’t a New Years Resolution per se, but in early January of 1998 I drastically changed my eating habits in an attempt to lose weight. I dropped over 50 lbs and have kept it off since then. I stuck with it because I felt better, and I saw results, and I accepted that it was a life-long change, not a temporary solution. I also accepted that I would have minor setbacks but that it wouldn’t keep me from getting back on track.

I once had one I kept for three months, at a favorite pub. They had a big board of all the different brews, and each person could get his name added to the grid. Then I’d try a different beer, ale or stout every time I came in. With someone keeping score, it was easy. But then they ran out of new beers!

This time last year I made a huge money bet with all my friends. I bet that I could refrain from any cussing, swearing or strong anguage in all my posts to the SDMB for a whole year. Only a day to go and I win the whole fucking lot!

For the last two years I’ve made the same resolution and I’ve stuck to it. It’s not hard when you put your mind to it.

Now is the time for year three. I’ll renew my resolution here, in public: For the year 2001 I resolve not to stick any forks in my eyeballs.

I resolved not to vote for a GOP nominee for President of the United States. Too bad Scalia decided to make the matter moot.
