I was flipping channels and passed by a documentary showing the crowds tearing down the Berlin Wall. Every time I see images of that night, I tear up. The only other image I can think of that has a greater effect on me is the lone man blocking the tanks in Tiananmem square.
I read that the photographer who took that picture suffered from extreme guilt years afterwards because he didn’t help the baby.
For me, any image dealing with the Little Rock Nine going to the white school for the first time, but especially this image. She just looks so afraid and that woman behind her is so cruel and hatefilled.
He actually killed himself in 1994 a few months after he won the Pulitzer for that photo.
There’s a similar one from Rwanda in '94 that I’ve seen and can’t quite get out of my head. It’s a baby crying next to the body of its dead mother. I’m not really upset that I can’t seem to find it on the web.
I agree with all posted so far, esp the man standing in front of the tanks.
Another vote for lone man blocking the tanks in Tiananmem square. This was an image of someone appoximately my age doing something I could imagine doing. The more shocking pictures from other posts don’t touch me as much beause they symbolise something beyond my scope.
