He was just OK. I think the reason he’s been a back-up singer throughout his career was because that’s his strength. He didn’t suck – he’s just not “AI good.”
I think he appeared to be better than he is because he was surrounded by terminal suckosity.
That was great! The guy was truly horrible after working on his singing and nothing else for two years!?! And then Simon happens to notice his credentials…
Can anyone link to a picture of “16-year-old Gorgeous Black Kid”? You know…the one that Paula was drooling over and everyone thought it was inappropriate for her to be hot for the too-young hottie? I looked at the site, but I’m not even sure what city he was in.
That doesn’t look like him. I remember him having much softer features. Not a girly-man appearance, but less intense. Maybe it’s just the photos on the New Faces site.
Hmm. I liked the back-up singer. Alaina Alexander might sound better if she stopped gasping after every line. I really liked the older fellow, too. Olivia Newton-John added some poise and grace.
But overall, not too impressive, though we were not shown most of the ones who got through.
I’m the first one to admit that I notice the drastic improvement most of the contestants have once they have music behind them. He (and all of the Ho Hum Gang) may move into an entirely different category to my ear once they get rolling. Again, he didn’t suck. He just didn’t strike me as a “By God He’s A Star!” kind of guy.
I have found that I have less and less tolerance for all the suckitude they keep showing us. It’s gotten so that I know the person is going to suck before they sing by the amount of time they spend giving people’s backstory - which is waaay too much. Also, they spend way too much time following after the rejected contestants, for example I thought they were going to follow Pong (Phong?) all the way home.
I watch for the good singers. I’d really like to see a lot more of them but all we get is maybe one or two then a quick blurb at the end “twenty-one people went through to Hollywood”. Yeah, and we got to see maybe three of them. Then come Hollywood week they will focus on the the drama llamas, the weird ones and the ones with the saddest stories and we still won’t get to see even half those who made it through.
I find it hard to believe they are actually going to focus one episode on the good ones as someone mentioned. If they do my guess is they will still manage to throw in a lot of sucky ones.
Yes, and as someone else said, Randy and Paula laughing in people’s faces is getting tiresome. Of course they can be laughable, but I like Simon’s approach better.
Was it just me or did Simon still pronounce Phong’s name as “Pong” right after they asked her how to pronounce it and she told them, “Fong?”
“How do your pronounce that name?” “Fong.” “Well, Pong…”
I’m looking forward to all the good singers. I’m looking foward to picking favorites, disliking others for personal reasons and boggling over how anybody else could see things differently than I do. I’m looking forward to Jenry. I’m looking forward to seeing Jenry. Any other interpretation is WRONG and ILLEGAL.
I’m staking claims on *second * dibs then. Unless my pick is a direct clash with Biggirl’s then mine will be the Second High Holy pick. Anyone else winning, other than Biggirl’s pick, will be a travesty of justice and a metaphor for all that’s wrong with the world.
